What are the ‘Tombstones’?…. I’m not familiar
Sorry about that! I know some prefer them as they find the sport seats a bit restrictive across the shoulders But I’ve never read anyone say they prefer the ruffled leather. It’s amusing the advert tries to make it sound like it’s the connoisseurs choice

I recommend sitting in a sports seat before trying to buy some. If really liked the look of them but I found them narrow across the shoulders and uncomfortable. So stuck with the standards seats.
I found the sports seats gave me lower back problems as I’m broad shouldered & it didn’t matter what I did adjustment-wise to ease it (I even tried one of those lumber roll cushions to no avail).I was mooching in the PH classifieds (as you do) & saw the following ad

Not only 130k miles on a manual Carrera with aerokit, but a CAT D car & they are asking £15,995!!....I know values have risen in the last 18 months, but.....

Where would we pitch this one value-wise? https://www.pistonheads.com/buy/listing/12661735

I'm tempted to go take a look, as its local... Wonder if there's any evidence of the previous damage/repair, and also it reads as though the first 9 years of service history are missing?

If it was Cat D it could have been something very minor as I believe more major claims were Cat C but I'm not sure how you would assess the validity of any story about this presented now by a seller.
All old cars like this could have been damaged and repaired and not listed as Cat anything so you need to do your checks all the same. If it looks sound you could get a discount for nothing too serious. But dont forget, the more jaded enthusiasts among us believe only one thing, there is no such thing as a cheep Porsche.
I used the valet parking at Heathrow a few years ago, they reversed my car into a bollard - then denied all knowledge. Handy.
Anyway, I asked the Porsche Indy that I use for a quote to fix it and from memory it was north of 3k - new bumper, all related bits, paint etc.
This was around about the time I decided to get the car painted, which took care of the paint on the bumper which was the only thing that actually needed any rectification.
What am I banging on about this for? I think, based upon my admittedly anecdotal experience, that very minor damage could be enough to make these cars a Cat D. I'd have no qualms about buying such a car just as long as I could have it inspected by someone I trusted and the price reflected the status of the car.

Just done an oil change on my 996 3.4 today and did the filter roulette moment when I opened it up to check for debris, all clear thankfully, but this gave me nearly as much of an adrenaline shot as driving the thing!Gassing Station | 911/Carrera GT | Top of Page | What's New | My Stuff
