my horn has stopped working but I still get a beep if I lock with glove box open, is that the same horn?
Anyway is this a common issue & hopefully cheap to fix.
My horn stopped working too but I think thats related to my momo steering wheel horn push - just a guess.Anyway is this a common issue & hopefully cheap to fix.
I'd suspect the beep uses the alarm siren.
That also doesnt work on my car. If the alarm goes off the hazards flash and thats it - no noise.

Glovebox? Flash bd!
I had to go to the Isle of Man a few years ago for business. Whilst there I was meeting with some Solicitors and then visiting some other businesses and looking at office space to rent. Therefore it was suggested by these Solicitors that I bring my car rather than Fly so I could get around. Whilst at our meeting with the Solicitors they suggested one of their Staff would come with me and show me round. So we left the office and got in my Car - not a Porsche. I had to drive round the front from the parking to pick her up. As soon as she got in and sat down she opened the glove box. All that was in there was a 12 pack of Durex. She just closed it and didnt say a word. I never knew why she opened it. She wasn't wearing gloves.ATM said:

Now I need to buy that manual too!
My 996 is coming out of storage after 9 years at the end of this month.
one of the very first to come to the UK, zenith, no sunroof Carrera 2 manual with Savannah (which I am in the minority who love).
I drove it a couple of years back and did rads and coil packs then, so off it goes on a trailer to the best man in Stockton for all fluids, major service, MOT (plus an annoying issue with the steering wheel column not adjusting) and then back to me for May.
I plan to drive it just for pleasure occasionally.
Glad I kept it.
Will post photos when back from the workshop

Hello
Hello
Hello
Glad you're enjoying it. They look like 997 wheels. Just want to point out they have a different offset to standard 996 wheels. This means the wheels are 7mm more inward on the front. This can affect the steering and make it a bit nervous or twitchy. Easily corrected with some spacers.
Anyway I don't want to sound like I'm slagging your car off as that's not my intention. Just sharing the knowledge or can't help being a nerd - whichever you prefer.

I'm running 15mm spacers with those wheels, gives a nice 8mm additional front spacing which I think looks great.Hello

I also like Savannah. Probably because my first Porsche had it. Looks poor on a 9x7 with the silvery grey detailing but on the 9x6 with black detailing it works so well. I think it is exterior colour dependant and I'd prefer it on Darker coloured cars. Dont remember seeing it on a Zenith car so ... we need some pics man.
just off the trailer. Now the work begins to bring it back on the road - let's see how painful

So my friend has a 996.2 - pic below of his with mine. I may of mentioned this before. Now I know this is not a gen 1 and therefore has no business being in this thread. But I wanted to share a little story about it and the owner and his experience and history with the car. This is quite relevant I think to the people here who like these cars, have one already or are thinking of getting one.
So lets start about 3 or 4 years ago. I had my 996 and I was loving it and kept telling him that I love it. After maybe 12 months of listening to me going on and on and on and .... he eventually caved in and decided to buy one. He did the usual car buying thing of trying to find one that he thought was good value. So he bought this one and the reason he gave was that it was in good condition and had been owned by the same guy for many years and he liked the colour scheme. Personally I didnt think it was a great car because it was a gen 2 - obviously - and because I didnt think the list of recent maintenance excited me. But he seemed very pleased with his purchase and I guess that's the most important thing with car buying. We can only give so much advice and sometimes people might not want to listen to it.
At first he enjoyed the car. Then he took it to see a Porsche mechanic he knows well after owning an early Cayenne V8 for 4 or 5 years. The first service included some extras - but Ï cant remember the exact order so lets just say that over the next 2 years he had lots of work done to the car including discs and pads, spark plugs and coils, water pump and belts, rads and ac condensers, some extra ac pipes running along the bottom of the car, brake pipes - rigid and flexis - and finally a clutch. So at this point he was into the car for about 6 or 7 thousand in bills for bits and pieces.
Then we had the lock down and the car went into hibernation away from his home for over 12 months. As we came out of lock down I had been busy buying more Porsches and he was still without his Porsche. He started moaning about it to me, talking about selling it and generally not feeling the love. I persuaded him - or he decided to - go and get the car and spend some time with it before making a decision to keep it or sell it. He kept sending me ads for 997 cars and still generally not feeling the love. I pressed him for some concrete reasons why he didnt like the car and we got down to a little list of niggles which were annoying him -
Seat Rubbish
Some sort of weird diff lash or gearbox problem - coming on and off the throttle while changing gear
Some vibration from the wheels / tyres / drivetrain
Some vagueness in the feel of the car - quote 'not exactly sporty'
So we started trying to work through them one by on. All along the way he kept talking about selling and not wanting to spend too much as he was of the view he should sell it but I kept chipping away.
Long story short - well I will shorten the end - he is now in love with the car. I now get videos form him talking about how the car behaves mid bend, how he can feel the weight transfer coming on and off the throttle going into and coming out of a bend etc etc etc.
If anyone is interested what the cause of his problems were and how they were fixed -
Seat Rubbish - now has 997 seats
Some sort of weird diff lash or gearbox problem - coming on and off the throttle while changing gear - turned out the Dual Mass Flywheel was shot and should have been changed when he had the clutch changed but was missed by his 'trusted' mechanic
Some vibration from the wheels / tyres / drivetrain - replaced all wheels and tyres
Some vagueness in the feel of the car - quote 'not exactly sporty' - the vagueness improved when he changed to correct 996 wheels from 997 wheels - wrong offsets - but the main change was all new arms, bumps stops and tie rods for the front suspension. He didn't want to go mad - financially - so kept the original shocks and springs but basically changed everything else.
When he was at his lowest with the car he was thinking of worse case scenarios being he needed all of the following -
Full Gearbox Rebuild
All new suspension parts
Firmer coil over type dampers and bushes and roll bars etc
