what is an 'early' 3.4 996?
Discussion
I've just joined 911 ownership bit of a lurker, bought a 996.1 it's a silver carrera 4 on a 2001 plate so one of the last 3.4 before the face-lift had some good preventative maintenance done by last two keepers the things you would like time see.
I came from a monaro v8 with circa 400bhp bit of a one trick pony it was all about the engine and noise these cars are a really impressive. Love the view out the windscreen the way it wraps around, the car shrinks around you and the road seems to disappear under your feet.
Just sorting a few niggles, going to ninemeister for a checkover , few bits and service then all being well the bodyshop for bit of paint work.
No proper pics yet just sorting out my plate transfer but this thread was great reading and research.

An excellent choice. The late 3.4 C4s are close enough to the 911 DNA but with a resolved, competent and characteristic appeal of their own IMHO. Thanks, looking forward to picking it up! Certainly seems a sound car from a decent enthusiastic seller with many of the age related jobs done. It has some of the rawness that I crave having lived with a Caterham for many years.
It will be my 3rd Porsche but 1st 911, bought in part for its practicality, with the ability to transport a child in the back and use, not garage jewelry! I'm even looking out for front airbag shut offs, roof bars and a top box for next summer's classic motorsport related camping!
Certainly not bought for its investment potential (sadly unlike so many it seems) but hopefully it will retain some of its value in part offsetting the running costs.

Would be good if they don't.
Who wants an "investment" car, anyway? For most people, that just means that you can't drive them!
Also, we all know "investments" go down as well as up.....
Well my 'investment' has certainly gone down in the 8yrs I've owned it! Who wants an "investment" car, anyway? For most people, that just means that you can't drive them!

Be nice if it did rise just a little...!
I think there's a balance
In addition to the simple pleasure of driving a 996, I wanted a car that with any luck would offset running costs with a modest gain in value, and that I can keep and enjoy for the long term. Seems a sensible plan to me - I'm not a big fan of depreciation
Mine isn't an every day car, certainly not for the the dull m-way commutes I do, but it does get regular use. For example if I have a meeting in Manchester & it's a nice day, then I have the option of using it to get there across the hills rather than the 3 series via A50 / M6...

Sorry if it was answered 20+ pages ago but is a 98-00 C2 really only 1320 Kg? Seems a remarkably low weight figure but is quoted in several places around the net.
Your welcome to bring your scales round to my house? There isn't much to it and options add weight. I believe the early cars are the lightest because they started adding more supports and more crash protection in the later cars even though they loom the same.
My car was corner weighted when the KW suspension was fitted. I should try and dig out the paperwork. Surely it will have a total weight on there.
