The jump from 996 to 986 S will definitely make you feel like it's a bit slower. If you go for an overtake in a 986 you find yourself thinking hang on the car isn't quite quick enough.
Tbh I’m not that bothered any more by out and out performance. I just fancy having a rag top again. Two previous cars being an MX5 and a Caterham.

In that case you just need to decide if you do go for 986 do you go for the original gen 1 car with plastic rear window and smoother bumpers or the gen 2 with glass window and fussy bumpers full of fins and scoops.

I bought my manual 996.1 with 29k on the clock 4 1/2 years ago for £23k. Sold it this weekend with 39k for what I paid for it. I must’ve spent about 10k on it but had a lot of fun.
I think I’ll now get a 986/987.
I'd go early 987 with the 3.2L. Would feel like an upgrade. I sometimes wish I'd got one over my 996.

For the first time in my ownership I need to change the tyres on my C2 and having started to do some reading the suggestion seems to be they need to be "N" rated.

Only problem is, I can't seem to find any!

Any recommendations?

This

PS4 work well on them. Can’t get PS4S in the size sadly

Running PS2 on my 996 turbo and they are still a decent tyre

If you want 285 30 18 you can only choose the PS2 which is N rated.

265 35 18 has a few more options.

I'm running Goodyear Eagle Asymmetric 5 all round, seem to get excellent reviews and work well for me.

Don't worry about N rating imo. The PS2 is an ancient tyre these days, much better out there.

I think there is already an Eagle 6 out.

I just bought a set of continental premium 6 for my 981. Not driven it much but they feel good. Getting another set but for my 986 next.

I think you can (just) squeeze 295s on the 10j rear alloys for a 996 and this would open up further options for new tyres including Pilot Sport 4S. I’ve a 2nd set of wheels (Team Dynamics ala the Boxster series race wheels) with 265 rear tyres so I’ve not worn my 285s out yet as I swap them back & forth depending on how I want the car to look.

I have them on my WRX and can recommend them. I had PS4s on my 996.1

The 295/30/18 PS4S is a mythical beast - I don’t believe anyone ever managed to buy them, otherwise we would all be running them on our turbos!

Off to Flat6 at Goodwood tomorrow, so I thought I'd give the spotter a quick clean. I can't wait to get a garage built, it was never this much effort when it wasn't left out all of the time banghead

I don’t think this one has been commented on as yet....

It’s strong £s for a “cat” car that clearly needs some tlc, regardless of being a Carrera with aerokit and no sunroof.

£20k for a scruffy, 100k miles cat D… and a long winded ‘we will tell you to fk off if you come back with any problems’ from the obvious dealer…

Tyres: All 4 of my ps2’s will need changing soon.

F - 225/40 R - 265/35 - 18 inch.

Was going to go ps4, but ps5 seem available also.

Anybody tried tge PS5 — on a 996 or something else?
Reviews seem to say they are just a PS4 evolution & perhaps harder wearing…..?

Are both sizes available in ps5?

I just bought some continental premium contact 6 for my 981 and they feel very good.
