Yep that's right. The Mk1 Carrera was also lighter than the GT3, due to the GT3 using the C4 shell and having a cage etc.

Edited to add -
I just missed this car when I bought mine a year and a half ago. It was listed on a Friday night and sold before I could get up to Scotland on the Saturday morning.

I normally dislike Arena red and suicide Savannah but I think they look quite classy on this car.

Would be interesting to know when it was last serviced at a specialist . I know he done it DIY but you would think specialist would pick up things before they caused issues

Not really early subject but whats up with the 996 C4s prices? I have started to see some really good examples, fairly high miles (80-90) in early or mid 20s? Beautiful cars indeed. bandit

Sorry if it was answered 20+ pages ago but is a 98-00 C2 really only 1320 Kg? Seems a remarkably low weight figure but is quoted in several places around the net.
996.1 C2 is indeed 1320kg, add 50kg and 20bhp for the 996.2 C2.
And C4S is 385lbs heavier tank

They look great though biggrin

I piled about 5000 miles on a Polar Silver C4S demo back in the day, loved that car!

Do they feel much different to an early C2?

My colleague used to have one. He used to say, he would prefer 996 c2 or boxster 3.2 in terms of driving fun, but the styling just absolute gem! . I do agree on that too, they do look fantastic and somehow they are low or mid 20s recently?

C2 feels more nimble, but I often gave it the beans down my favourite country lanes with PSM turned off which I don't do with my C2. Although that may be the difference between a car I actually own and a demo laugh

My C2 has no PSM and I have never gotten out of shape even in the wet. Although it is a constant worry.

I've owned both, the c4s really feels a lot heavier and as a result more planted. C2 more nimble and light, both good cars just different. Both feel heavy though when compared to boxster's. I had a 987.2 3.4 just after my c4s 996 and it felt so much quicker and lighter.
Sold my 996.1 C2 earlier this year for a 981 which really are fantastic value for money.
However I fully understand they are not a 911.

Mine does, only ever triggered it oncein 8yrs of spirited driving & that was me being a prat in a wet, off camber roundabout with nearly bald Pirellis. As a result, I never bother turning mine off (unless I'm in a field of course!).

You'd have to want to get it out of shape or drive like a moron to really get into trouble.

Both of my C2s have moved around a bit in the wet under power. Perfectly easy to control, but with a little prod they'll get mobile.
The old C2 had TC and the LSD. Didn't seem to do very much!

Weighed less than the 993 it replaced Neil.

It's still quite a small car as well
50% stiffer structure, too. Makes the "hewn from granite" descriptions of the air-cooleds a little.....misguided.

I noticed sometimes when I drive up the small curb or lip outside my house I get a skidding noise which sounds like one wheel locking up. I've now discovered the cause. As my suspension is so stiff if I put one wheel up this lip then the car effectively sits on 3 wheels as one is off the ground.
