what is an 'early' 3.4 996?

Erm.... it's a C4. Plenty of them around. Whilst hiding from the sun..... checked the offering on here ... starting at 22k
Are you honestly telling us you can tell the difference between a C2 & C4 on a 22 year old car that has various state of tyres/suspension/engine mounts/gearbox ect.Edited by stretcher on Saturday 13th August 16:29
When I was daily driving my 996 C2 I had to take some tools and a big trolley jack and axle stands somewhere. Managed to squeeze it all in the froot - no spare. Car definitely drove different. You could feel the weight over the front. But my C2 is really low with rock hard suspension. So you feel everything.
I think you guys are under valuing your car.

For a realistic selling price all you need to do is check out auction results. EBay and collecting cars for private sales.
The £20k+ cars are sitting for months and not selling. The £18k, 100k+ mile cars are not selling. The ones that are shifting are well south of 100k miles and sub £18k, or aero kitted and £20k-ish. Garish interiors are a big turn off for the market, so drop a fair bit off the expectations for Boxster Red or Savannah.

I’ve been around 996 for 15 years now & mileage is not one of the factors I’m working out worth with.
It’s completely up to you of course but out of curiosity how much do you think a C2 is worth over the equivalent C4
I have no idea as they don't interest me. Same as i am not interested in fat women. I have been around Porsche 911's for 25 years and the C4 variety of any 911 has always been harder to shft and is worth less. Fact. Go on Ebay there are plenty to choose from. I have been around 996 cars for 12 months actively seeking an early car on a 3 times a day basis as i see them being a 50k car in 5 or 6 years time and it's time to buy.
I have viewed and driven around a dozen cars in the past year, most were not there a couple of weeks after my viewing/ test drive. I have also seen plenty of dogs in that time too, no history, crashed, no recent money spent on them, i have mentioned a few on this thread. Based on those experiences I am putting my car in the sub 18k band as it is a rare colour with a good spec. When was the last 3.4 solid Black manual car on the market.? Anyone...?
I have seen 1 car that i had inspected. I mentioned it on here as it's been wrapped around a lamp post unrecorded.. i can always drop the price on my car. Never managed to raise an asking price though.

Hi everyone - very excited to say I've just joined the club! 1998 (although the seller reckons it was actually a 1997 build, so pretty darn early) manual C2 in Ocean Blue, with grey shoe-leather interior that I'm actually pretty fond of. Loving it so far. The combination of relatively classic-feeling sports car and useable GT is exactly what I was hoping for:
Lovely looking car. Out of interest, what did you pay and what's the mileage. ? ATM said:

I've actually been considering selling my early 996 C4, 68k miles now - we bought on 54k two years ago.
It's got the full factory aerokit and has (IMO) a really cool colour way (vesuvius grey exterior, grey interior).
I've done most of the usual bits and bobs on the car, like:
- coffin arms, fork arms
- top mounts / coilovers
- discs / pads all round, fresh stainless bleed nipples
- water pump / drive belt / all pulley bearings
- fixed a few minor oil leaks
- gearbox oil
- running 10w50 millers nano drive oil
- plugs
- it's had a (controversial I know), EPS IMS bearing replacement, along with clutch etc - there was some minor play in the old one.
Mechanically, the car is in good shape and it's not used any oil at all in my ownership.
Sadly the thing that lets it down is some bubbling creeping in on the arches and various bits of paint not being mint, not helped by the fact the car appears to have sat around for a lot of its life, my plan was to tidy it up - I've even gone and spoke to Sportwagen about paint but their advice was it wasn't really bad enough to warrant attention just yet (I think they tend to just paint the entire car, so it's a minor $$$ increase for it to be worse), I did as they advised and treated it as best as I could for now.
The final bad point is due to the car sitting around the service history has a large gap (but not on mileage), mileage was verified to be genuine based on durametric readings.
Wondered if any of you might have some advice on how to price the car? It wasn't something I was ever planning on selling, but a new job means less free time and I already have another project so to speak.

And mine is Ocean Blue not lapis and not for sale! 😘
Things must have changed, I remember eBay being the last resort for cars that hadn’t sold via, word of mouth, clubs, enthusiasts sites, specialists buying them.
Therefore the prices reflected the lower end of the quality gap.
I’m not looking for argument or bashing anyones car. I just prefer a pain free experience so was willing to pay a bit more for a truly sorted car, these cars currently do not seem to be hitting the market, as you say they may well be due a big increase in price & let’s be honest, most are second/third cars who belong to someone who does not need another £20k in their bank
