what is an 'early' 3.4 996?
Discussion
Hi guys,
Is there a month/year that indicates what an early 3.4 is? And does that engine generally not suffer bore score at all? I gather they have the dual row IMS so relatively safe?
My thinking is outside the turbos... An until you get into gen 2 997, the rest have questionable potential to go wrong.... I like the shape of the 997, but really wouldn't take the gamble of a gen 1...
Is an early 3.4 The 'safe' option? One of them with a factory aero kit in guards red sod be a nice keeper me thinks.....

Much appreciated guys.....
I know the various issues you read online about the later 996, and gen 1 997 may only be a small % of cars... But given the chunk of change to fix vs. The purchase price.. The gamble doesn't really stack up for me
Cable throttle aero knitted guards red 'early' !! 996 please!!

I'm in no panic..... That is certainly my desired spec, should one come along...
Lots more guards red gen 1 997s about, but personally I'd rather hoof up the extra cash and buy a gen 2 and be done...
I gave saw a well priced gen 2 997, I just really don't want to spend that much ideally

If this was red..... Would most likely be jumping... Even with this colour it's tempting
How does this colour compare to basalt in the flesh?

Never mind red, at least it's a colour. That's my kind of car and a very keen price.
As a C4 it won't have any "early" features but as I say above, IMHO, not worth getting hung up over. You're buying the car in front of you, not a list of things someone else tells you you need.
Bet it's gone in a week.
It is very nice... What do you mean by bring a C4 it won't have any 'early' features? As a C4 it won't have any "early" features but as I say above, IMHO, not worth getting hung up over. You're buying the car in front of you, not a list of things someone else tells you you need.

I'll be interested to see what the red kitted car is marketed for
The miles are higher than I'd ideally like... But if it's priced right, and the history is good... I'd buy it.
The original ad showed great history up to 2010 - if similar history continued... And the guy prices it well.. I will be interested!
The silver car at 13.9k is actually very local to me... It does look nice, well priced & lovely miles... I might call to see what history is has... But I really have been holding out for a guards red

Yup.. Will be intersecting to see what £ it is pitched at... To be fair, a lot of it will depend on how much he has done in the prep... Or not
I wouldn't pay 'strong' money for a car with 110k on it.. But other than that it sounds interesting
Part of my dilema is whether I sell my E90 M3 to buy the 996, or keep both.. I only do 4-5k a year max, so hard to justify two cars to run.. But it would be a very sad day to move the m3 on.
I have looked at 996 turbos, but hate the thought of having 40-45k tied up in one car
1st world problems

cheers guys......... i have thought of a 2 seater, but to be fair... whatever can i get i'd like it to have 4 seats so i could actually use it at the wk ends (kids etc)
the M3 is just unreal...... perfect do it all car. to the OP with the 550 - i too have thought of getting a nig petrol estate car.. but the wifes car is a skoda octavia VRS estate...... and that does all the practical things just so well.
its hard to justify the M3 and 996, but i might do it at least for a year or 2 and then pick which to keep...... if i kept the 996 i'd park it for the winter and get a barge or a jeep of some kind to mooch about in.
