Makes sense, or just drive and enjoy a 911 whilst not losing any money and not having anything mechanical to do for a while.
The Californication approach definitely the right way of doing it.

Nice car and advert but be realistic. It’s a divisive colour, Cat registered and has done 140,000 miles.

Price is exactly right and advert is well done.

Possibly a case of owners like me thinking they are worth more and spectators who dont own one thinking they are worth less. It still looks cheap to me.

I don't think you're miles out on your pricing was8v... the swirling might polish out, but the surface rust on the front wings needs sorting, so probably best to paint the whole front to get the paint match right.

I had the front of mine painted last year, along with a small bubble repaired on the top of the NS wing and it was £800. Yours needs a bit more than that, plus the door strikers need doing and a few other bits... I reckon around £2k. If the rust is only on the surface I'd not bother changing the panels.

Add in £400 for a wheel refurb and the new owner would be at £11.5k.
I doubt that's surface rust.

I'm in the middle of stripping all 4 corners of my car. All 4 wings/arches will rust inside out. That leading edge near the side repeater there is a lip and although mine looks fine on the outside I found surface rust on the inside (remove the headlight and you'll find it). Likewise the inner arch lip where the liner can rub, road grime eats away until the first you know is bubbles on the paint on the outside. The rears are more of an issue as there is a double skin where the moisture gets in and it goes inside out.

The good thing about the front wings is that hey are an easy full panel replacement. Any buyer could stick a new wing on that and match the paint as best they can. You'd be daft to throw money at a full front end respray to match on a cat D sub 10k 911. Just be happy it's presentable and mechanically rock solid.

Regarding the price. I'd advertise at a little more and invite offers. Most folk like to haggle a bit to make them feel like they've done a deal. I'd say the price is about right as there was a post recently on the FB page where a guy discovered a car was a cat D after he went to view. It was pretty unanimous that it was still good value at over £9k

Also agree with Cmoose on the ad. Cut out the short story. 1 para in I just skimmed it until I got to the facts about the car.

Less than the asking IIRC.

Thanks.

This is why I picked up two rust free wings when I saw them a good price, and these will go with the car if the buyer wants them.

I wouldn't bother buzzing the rust off and filling then painting and risk it coming back if a wing can just be keyed and painted off the car and then an hour or two to fit.

I just never got round to it - life moves on. Plus I'm the sort who would be paranoid about driving a mint car as its bound to pick up some damage immediately!

On the pricing side of things I think it's about right, maybe a smidge less than I'd ask for it. Mine's Ocean Blue and on 140k or so and I reckon it's £11500 maybe £12k tops. That's for a non Cat car in a reasonable colour, although I like the colour of his, way better than Silver or Grey smile

I'm sure I posted this a few months back wearing some different wheels. Was 10 grand then too and on PH classifieds.

How much did the retrim cost, out of interest? I'd be very tempted to do similar (with black seat centres and everything....)

That's assuming they were retrimmed. Do let me know if you sell.
The seat centres & console bits were trimmed by Cobra as part of the package so I can’t comment on retrimming original seats (if that’s what you’re after). Southbound Trimmers and D Class are amongst the names I’ve seen mentioned before for retrimming as well as
Bespoke Leathering who’ve appeared on Car SOS. There are also companies who’ll recolour/repair the existing leather.
Thanks!

Sad day for me. It's time for the 996 to leave me.

Please can you lot give me some feedback on my advert? Too much or not enough detail? Way out of touch with the asking price?

Yes long gone now to the first viewer. It was sold on the first strong and smooth full bore pull to 7k rpm.

Could have sold it three times over at least, had lots of contacts that were very keen to book trains and come get it.

But then it was a sorted car that belonged to an obsessive owner, wants for nothing mechanically, drives tight and straight with strong brakes and everything works unlike most other 21 year old cars.

I REALLY miss it. But I am constantly reminded that life moves on.

Mine flew through it's MOT today, advisory on handbrake being a bit crap and indicators being faded so I'm happy with that. Something sounds like it rubbing at low speeds from the NSR though, so just booked it in with my indi to look at. He'll fit my Momo wheel at the same time and hopefully I'll get the seats refurbished at last!

Shamefully though I'm 1500 miles between tests getmecoat

Trip to Spa for the Classic in May will help put some miles on it this year though smile

Auction starting at £8500

Claims to have been a daily driver for the last 2 years. Not much info about jobs done except clutch and then a massive gap in history but looks cheap enough right now and its black. I'm tempted so I'm posting it here to prevent me doing anything silly.

Nothing unusual in the MOT history. I'd be asking if the brake pipes have all been replaced though...you should be asking on ANY early 996, they will all be rotten in hidden places over the gearbox, in front of steering rack and under the undertray ahead of the rear wheel - the ones you can see are usually OK.
