Spied a smart looking Huntsman 31 from the top of the Aurora in Southampton last week - navy tonneau and window covers - anyone here?

I spotted a fairey with an old goodwood members sticker in Cowes on Thursday

There was about 4 faireys out the water being worked on at the yacht haven.

Sou. Perkins Sabre M225Ti. Early boat with short hogs, long term owner, loves it to bits. One of the few with the single exhaust. Chap called Richard.

Sounds like it - right opposite the Mayflower Terminal. I have a photo but it's too much aggro to upload it.

Yes, that's Floating Charge. On of only 6 aft cock pit 31's that Fairey Built. Four of those 6 survive, 2 of the four are poorly long term ashore. On aft cabin boat has had the cabin removed, to make the 7th Aft cockpit. Tally Ho. Lives in Cowes.

Interestingly the 2 long term ashore are both ex race boats, it shows how tough a time they had back in the day.

There's so few 31's its easy to know which boat you are looking at, 32 built, I think 25 survive, recently one appeared in a barn after a 30 year snooze, club records said it was lost!

Lovely boat, lovely owners, well kept and well used. That boat has had the luck of 3 very caring owners.

Current owner also previously owned the last H31.

Hull number 100 fitted with a pair of Perkins Sabre M225ti.

Is that Hamble Point? There’s also a nice looking Huntsman in Berthons.

Yes hamble point. Looked like they were just visiting. Wasn’t it also where the factory was?

Yes and many of the buildings survive.

A few weeks ago the Fairey Owners Club held their annual concours and summer BBQ there and celebrated 60 years of the Huntress.

Hull 40, used to be Picard and now Zest, previously had a Perkins SM6. That boat is the subject of one of my favourite Fairey photos of all time.

I hate to be the hater but what am I missing here, to the untrained eye it pretty much looks like a Shetland to me.

Quite right, and an E type jag looks just like a bus.

Hmmmm, I guess beauty is in the eye of the beholder here. An e-type is beautiful, this boat has more of the Triumph/MG about it i.e. fugly!

The second one in the pictures is better but the one with the aft cabin is just not pretty, looks like an old fashioned floating caravan.

While we’re comparing cars/boats, here’s one I spotted on Saturday night.

Comparing a Fairey to a 'plastic fantastic' how dare you.
I think a 'keel hauling' is required or at a bare minimum a 'Plank Walk'.

If anyone considers buying a Fairey boat, buy the very best, it will certainly be the best buy in the long run.

(I know, I've bought 3 wrecks!)

Ohh yes, well aware that even a perfect one will require more time spend maintaining / fixing than actually out on the water using!

Oh good god man! You don't want to put it in the water and use it!
