Seems like an exceptionally good deal, but 16 inch rims, artico seats, entry level four pot petrol and solid paint make it all seem a bit "poverty spec".

So whats the thinking - is this VFM or just the wrong car at the right price?

I've no plans to buy one, but just curious what people think....

Wrong car at the right price I would say. The C isn't s very good looking car and even worse in standard spec.

And if you're not using finance it's £26k near enough which leaves you open to much nicer cars at that price

There's a reason why it is cheap.

The new C looks like it's been left outside in the sun too long and has started to melt. As said in SE spec that just makes it look worse.

Yes, my thinking too. Its cheap for a reason. Wrong engine and wrong spec.

They seem very impressed with the deal over on Hot UK Deals though...

Reference the brand thread, if you want a cheap way into a perceived prestige brand, that could be a way to do it if you have little or no knowledge of cars generally.

However you have, so I think after a few weeks, or maybe less, you would get buyers remorse wishing you had a better specced car and would regret buying it. This is a car for a brand we wink

Agree that it would look poverty spec. Saw one of these on the 16s a while back, it looked like it was driving around on four smarties.

It's a deal designed to appeal to

1. London market
Has to be petrol now, absolutely has to be auto, and big wheels not relavent in City just premium badge

2. Small fleet operators - cheap well presented and perfectly protected by warranty way of putting an estate agent / surveyor / marketing stuff chap in and around UK

At three years old and 100k people will fall over themselves to buy that for £7995... but buying new is where the value really lies to the above.

Thats easily surmounted though - take out the finance, get the manufacturers contribution then pay off the finance.

This isn't a stopper though, take the finance and the saving then settle it. The car on the other hand is a different matter..

That's a good price, and I'd say it's the right engine because the diesels are terribly unrefined for a premium car. Artico leather is standard across the range and is not too bad.

However, SE spec is really cut to the bone. They don't even cover the back faces of the rear seats - you get black painted metal. Last car had a car with this was a 1996 Citroen Saxo 1.1X.

Doesn't Porsche charge a considerable amount more to have painted seat backs (as part of the sport seat granted)?

Funny thing, marketing smile

Doesn't seem to be much wrong with the spec of the SE to me, it's got everything you'd need and a fair few trinkets. The higher spec level cars don't seem to add much which is actually functional, it's mostly cosmetics.

The vinyl seats and 16 inch alloys would be a show stopper for me. Also at this offer price they only have solid white or solid black.

It'll look like this....

Cheap car if you plan to keep it and run it into the ground I guess.

Painful for anyone with a passion for cars and / or driving I would imagine.

Not a comparison obviously but that price point equals something like an M3 V8 thumbup

Any amount of 19 inch AMG replicas about if thats your bag. Would help it a bit.

I'd rather have a used one in the right spec for that price, rather than a new on in the wrong spec.

It's not bad for a brand new 67 plate Mercedes but boy do they let you know it's a base spec, for similar money you could get a loaded 160bhp Titanium Spec Mondeo for similar or less money.

Too me a premium car with jam jar headlights is a no no too, LED dip and main beam is a must.

Agree a Mondeo would be a better spend of the money, or even a grand sport insignia. Or a Peugeot 508, or anything from the class below really

According to the spec sheet the Artico "leather" is what you get in every car in the range until you get up to the A43 AMG (Artico and microfibre cloth) and C63 AMG (Nappa), so the SE spec makes no difference to the seat material.

The wheels are pretty appalling though smile

Interesting. Maybe i'm being unnecessarily harsh on it then. Funny, there was a bloke getting in to a C220d SE as a hire car the other morning when i was parking at the airport and i was for a second tempted to ask him could i have a look inside, but it was 05:30 in the morning and i didnt want to come across as a weirdo so i thought the better of it hehe
