Any ideas where this drain hole goes?

Hi,

Car is a V8V Coupe. Hoping for a bit of help.

There is a drain in the scuttle below the windscreen.

It appears to go into a large plastic box that is covered in foil.

Any idea what this is?

I'm a bit concerned that having been parked under a tree it is filling up with decomposed leaves.

Isn't it covered with a mesh to stop leaves and other gunk from falling in the collector. Mine has this mesh
