Hi guys not sure if anybody can help with this ??.. just purchased a 991 GT3 and loving it biggrin although as I just can't leave things alone! feel I would like a bit more drama from the exhaust, been looking at the shark werks bypass. My question is Hayward and Scott do the same thing for the 997 GT3 and it's about 1K cheaper!!! I emailed them today asking if it fits the 991 but they couldn't give me a 100% yes.. is the 997 centre silencer the same design/dimensions to the 991? Any info much appreciated

Not sure on size but pretty sure they do differ. As to H&S vs Sharkwerks, yes cheaper but you will see why when you compare them why. Mind you it's not like your looking at the welds of your exhaust everyday. But when you have a car north of 100k and your questioning whether to go for the Lidl exhaust or the dogs doodas exhaust..... at least this is how I went about it and ended up with th Sharkwerks.. Where are you based? I am Surrey so if you want to inspect he sharky your more than welcome.

Isn't a centre bypass just a pair of pipes? ie no baffles, etc.
£1k is a lot of difference for that level of engineering - sounds more like a brand premium than a engineering premium

Even though the systems might look the same, I'd be skeptical about fitting a 997GT3 part to a 991GT3 given that they're completely different engines. It might fit, but the pulse pressures won't be the same and could actually cause a performance loss.
Sharkwerks are the definitive guys for 991 GT systems just now and I'll be honest in that I'm not sure what alternatives hayward and Scott could offer, if any (?)

Exactly what I've always thought.

Sure there's development time and jig manufacture (but have you seen the majority of exhaust manufacturing jigs ???) eek
I doubt they cost more than £250 (at most) to manufacture. Clamps are generic, couple of bits of laser cut steel, job done.
No doubt they're decent quality (and I've yet to read any complaints about them) but if they're designed correctly in the first place, they shouldn't crack or fail.

Looking at reviews/posts re H&S I have no reason to think the exhaust from them will not be reasonable quality... the sharkwerks I agree does look great but £1500 compared to £400 for the same product is a big difference!

Interested on your experience with the bypass?.. you happy with the difference it's made, is the car more vocal at lower revs? biggrin

Had the H&S bypass on mine for 4 years. No problems. Looked the difference and came to conclusion branding and import duty were the only differences.😀

You had the H&S on your 991 or 997 GT3 ?? trying to determine if the 997 bypass fits the 991

Sorry not too clear was it. Only on 997. Just making the the point that H&S stuff is good. Usually if they think there is a market they will make a prototype on yours then create the jigs to repeat. Maybe you could ask for interest in a group buy from other 991 owners. I do still have the original rear box off my 997 if you want any dimensions..

Had H&S on my 997.2 GT3 really very happy with it no problems. I think the Sharkwerks which is very good difference is import tax and premium brand.

Have been weighing up options for quite a while vis a vis centre muffler bypass for the 7.2 GT3.......

imho:

H&S - by all accounts well made to order, and nobody on here has complained about their sound or longevity. Good VFM I would argue.

SW - obviously well engineered and very popular, but very expensive for what it is (ie simple bypass pipes) esp given current exchange rate etc.

Milltek - also now offer a solution:

mid-priced at around £6-700 I think and it's marketed as fitting the 991 GT3 specifically. Check in with Chris at ABP Motorsport.

Re fitment (997vs991) my understanding is that the Sharkwerks option has been made so that it fits all the 997.1, 997.2 and 991 GT3 models including the RS. So it is not unreasonable to assume the others can be made to fit. There are not 'massive' differences in layout between the cars, but there are bound to be one or two adjustments needed re mounting points. No-one on here has done it yet though (or at least said they have!) so keep sharing your experiences lads...
