Good evening chaps ( & Ladies ) of course. I’m thinking of swapping the PCM for a CarPlay Unit. The car is a 997.1 can anyone recommend any good units. I know nothing about them so any advice will be a help. Cheers.
You can put any unit you like in. My recommendation is the entry level Pioneer CarPlay unit as it has a capacitative screen which looks and functions better in the car environment IMO. Fitting is pretty straightforward as I recall it. Hardest part is taking the old unit out as it has 4 rotating clips and a hidden set screw on the drivers side. Look on YouTube for guides.

The pioneer unit:

Personally I select based on:
Pioneer
Largest capacitative screen possible
CarPlay
Then lowest price

Does choice depend on Bose or non Bose car?

I think the wiring harness and connectors you need are different between BOSE and standard.

I put a Pioneer carplay unit in my 987.1 non-BOSE which was fairly straight forward but required wiring a switched 12v feed from the fuse box. Not sure if integration with BOSE is easier or not? I'm still enjoying the nostalgic look of the PCM in my 997 and have an iPhone connector in the armrest cubby for music so haven't looked at changing it yet.

I think that makes it easier.

It does. If you have a Bose unit you need an add-on optical adaptor.

Superb choice. I was picking my car up just as I think you were arriving at RPM to take a look at it. I had a good look around it and the condition was superb. I thought to myself, first person who sees this will buy it. Guess I was right! Enjoy, they are really fun things. Way more than the sum of their parts.
Yep, I deliberated for...not very long at all. I think it'll keep me entertained for a long time yet.

That said, the front is inconveniently low. The councils around the Windsor/Staines/Egham area don't seem to have read the guidelines for speedbump height and I keep scaring pedestrians by scraping the splitter on pretty much everything :-)

You wrote "picking my car up"? Something new??
I've broken the splitter on my 997.2 C2S Aerokit now *twice* in the last year. frown

I've actually got a T-30 Torx on the desk right now, and am removing the splitter this afternoon until I can get an axle lift kit sorted. I figure most people won't notice - but it's going to look a bit daft to anyone who knows their Pork

It's taking the edge off the ownership experience a little, having to think about it everywhere I go...

-ditto-

BTW, Porsche recommend not removing the splitter unless you also remove the rear wing, although I suspect it makes little difference at legal road speeds.

170,000 miles later, she's pretty leak free... Testament to Porsche, previous owners and Fearnsport for lovingly caring for her!

Absolutely brilliant.

I ran a 944S2 to 170,000 miles back in the mid-1990s. Servicing costs on that over three years were... "challenging". Hats off to you for doing it in a 997 turbo.

(just sneaked the "Shark Werks" in the top of the pic too. Nice!)

997.1 GT3!

Previous owner is on here I believe who did the bulk of the miles across Europe, 30,000 a year at its height! Certainly would struggle with that mileage here in the UK with the firm suspension!

I'm now using it as a daily driver and aiming to put several thousand more on!

Got the car in early Nov and added around 1300 or so already, this year being a bit up and down, but 15-20k...

However going to certainly, now I've got the car, do some European, Wales & Scotland road trips when regulations permit!

As long as possible, no real rush to upgrade for the moment - it'll do me!
