The 997 Appreciation Thread
Discussion
This was going to be a nice photo of a clean car, however every car in my street is covered in some fine dust following overnight rain so waste of time doing the deep clean over the weekend. Anyway, my 997T came out of hibernation a few weeks ago and is as solid as ever. Manual, Slate Grey, 53k miles, and with the full Kline system sounds like God shouting. Perfect....

Then again, I'm a large rim "hater" and, given the choice (ie: never as I only buy second hand) I'd always spec the smallest wheels possible. When it comes to wheels I subscribe to the "less is more" mantra.
100%. Small wheels generally weigh less, tramline less and give more feel and tyres are more affordable. The only downside is they don't always look better or fill the arch as well as larger wheels.
It's not just about the wheel itself but how the extra meat in the tyre wall adds some compliance.
I'm no racing driver but the car still has way more grip than my brain can understand. And when I switched from the 18 setup to these 17 I definitely noticed a lot more chitter chatter through the steering wheel. I'm now a total bore when it comes to going on and on about how smaller wheels are better.

The car is a 2005 997.1 3.6 ... both bumpers & lights changed to Gen2. Not my car. Just wondering what the thoughts in general were. Yes 20” wheels.
Got it. Have to say that although it may look ok, I’d never put larger wheels on my 997 due to ride impact. These are firm cars already and on UK roads I would want the compliance of a 19 at least. If your going aftermarket what about looking for a nice lightweight forged wheel that you like the look of but will also improve the handling, ride, steering feel and performance through reducing unsprung mass?Edited by Mariosbt on Wednesday 24th February 11:59
Should add that I added TPC PASM controller to my GTS to improve the ride and has been successful.

Do you have the details (offsets etc.) & where you got them.
Design 911 - all details are there (offsets, cost, centre caps etc.) although they've changed since I ordered mine. Mine came with black centre caps even though they were advertised without. Also I was advised by my Porsche specialist to fit a 5mm spacer + bolts at the front even though it was not advised when I ordered. It seems Brexit has changed the price because mine were cheaper when I ordered them before Christmas and it was nearly 3 months before they were delivered. Any way good luck sorting it all out.RATATTAK said:

So did you have to fit 5mm spacers & longer bolts, and do the standard Porsche wheel centres fit?
On the front yes - wheel centre caps that came with the wheels are 70mm across fixings - standard Porsche caps are 60mm, so I sent the caps I purchased back to Design 911 today. ETA
I had Fuchs copies on my Carrera 2S and interestingly the standard Porsche centre caps (60mm) fitted on those wheels which were also bought from Design 911 a few years ago.
