The 997 Appreciation Thread
Discussion
Just bought a 997 S gen 1 at 90,000 miles and very excited. Selling the Yaris GR (hopefully today) as unless driving it at 7/10 plus it just wasn't feeling special.
Engines been out a couple of times in the last 3 years for various work, and 3 of the cylinders have been bore score remedied. I have a 718 Boxster GTS on order (due in about a year) and thought that I'd see if the more classic 911 would be a better long term option. So far it's any excuse to jump in it and at 30% of the price of a new 718 Boxster GTS there's a strong financial argument.

Seems like a very sensible decision whilst you are waiting!
I was really interested in the Yaris, but a racing driver friend who developed the tuning packages for Litchfield said it was the most overrated car he'd driven, despite all the suspension enhancements. I therefore haven't even bothered to drive one.

I have a 981 and the 7/10 thing is similar. Great car for just doing boring driving as it's nice and modern etc. Having roof down option also helps distract from the mundane driving. Can excite when you attack it and press on as its very capable. But if you want something which gives you feel and feedback when just pottering around then the newer car is not what you want.I have a 718 Boxster GTS on order (due in about a year) and thought that I'd see if the more classic 911 would be a better long term option.

I have made similar choices, Yari + GT3.
Both are fun in the right circumstances and suboptimal in others.
I have just done 2000 miles down into the French Alps and back and the GT Trois is great on the right roads but definitely isn’t on others, it’s not a comfy or economical autoroute mile munching cruiser.
It depends how good you want the good bits to be.... or are happy with a more multi tool do everything 90% well approach.
It’s good we’re all different so there’s no definitive right answer and when I think I have it right I change my mind so I am never convinced I have it right for long.
I did love my A3 + GT3 + Boxster Spyder combo - I ask myself why did I change that, was it just itchy feet and too many interesting options.

I took my C2 3.6 997.1 out on a 140 mile round trip the other day, when I was driving slowly in towns etc.the steering was sounding very ‘creaky’… if that makes sense. Very hot day by the way.
Any ideas what could cause this?
I had similar a few years ago. OPC and a few indies said ‘coffin arms mate’, but one said it was worth trying a tie rod end on the side that seemed to be creaking. It was much cheaper and was the problem.Any ideas what could cause this?
Perhaps get underneath with a pry bar and move bushings around and see if any are split or worn. If this isn’t something you can do the half an hour labour at a garage should diagnose it.

Posted a couple of weeks ago about 997.1 purchase. Spent as much time admiring the looks as driving it. Had to learn about the best driving position which is more upright than expected, but feels quite natural now. Obviously it doesn’t take long before looking at upgrades and a DSC Sport pasm controller seems to a good option for improving mainly road handling. Anyone using one and/or looking to sell one?
As an aside, got a wave yesterday from a fellow 911 chap which was nice. Had many waves in the early days of Tesla, so shall be returning the acknowledgement.
