I originally thought that was a well-priced .2, then made the photos larger and realised someone had played with the bootlid. Can't decide if I like it or not. Looks like a decent car with the Hartech rebuild, but it's tiptronic and priced in .2 land so don't think it'll sell for that. If it was my money, I'd be getting the 2010 .2 manual C4S on AT that's on at a smidge under £37k (I'm surprised that's still for sale too - is anything selling?).

I'm not suggesting it is a good buy. Just showing the rear end porn.

Seems they have painted the original lights red to match the strip. Looks good.

Not sure about the massive wheels but they always photo well.

The 997 "strip" appears to be aping this and doesn't improve on it, IMHO.

One thing I always wonder between the 997.1/.2is the .2 cars always seem to sit higher whereas the .1 cars seem to sit just right.

Was the ride height increased across the board with the advent of the 997.2?

I really like the gen 2 engine cover with the red reflector. I like the Macan steering wheel also.

Not so keen on the wheels or the rear lights (hopefully just a sticker?). Both easily sorted.
I wouldn’t mind to have a Tiptronic if I was to use it for instance in London most of the time.

Finally picked her up from Eporsch down in Surrey yesterday morning. 05:14 Train down to Reading and then a couple of changes and a couple of mile stroll through Lightwater. Had reserved a few weeks ago, but the dealers had some bits and pieces to put right before sale.

She's got 61k miles on her, a 2006 car, C2S Manual. I'm the 4th owner. Very very lightly specced car, she's got the M030 / LSD option instead of PASM, Short Shift, Sport Chrono and Turbo style 19" Wheels and that's about it. She hasn't even got the valved PSE which I thought was standard. Certainly no heated seats, dual climate or parking sensors.

First impressions - massively different car to my old 992. You have to drive this thing. The suspension certainly wouldn't suit you if you wanted a cruising daily and the short shift manual Is lovely but tricky to get used to again especially after 2 years of a point and shoot fast EV.

In the last two years, looks like most of the big ticket items have been crossed off. 9e have been looking after her since 2016.

In 2021, the previous owner spent £7.5k on an engine out service; all coolant pipes and brake lines, front to back, over engine and front cross overs. Water pump, RMS and IMS seals, Tandem Pump, Lower Control Arms, Expansion Tank and Major Service.

Just before my purchase, Eporsch put new discs and pads all round, new tyres all round, air conditioning service including replacement of condensers and radiator at the front, replacement backboxes (second hand but look pretty new - still shiny)

Prior to 2021, usual service every two years, before that, on the button. Original engine Borescore free.

The good? Overall, lovely condition and I've looked at a few of this age and mileage. Body work is utterly immaculate. Someone has loved this thing, one very small door dink on the drivers side rear arch, you'd struggle to spot it. Obviously a lovely lovely car and a bit of a different spec.

The bad? No documented evidence of major suspension work recently, feels tight, the coil springs and dampers look quite new and the bump stops haven't degraded, so someone must have done something at some point. Likewise clutch. Eporsch were happy that its all in order and no work needed. Interior is in pretty good shape, but the drivers side bolster needs some love and some of the plastic trim has that age related 'stickiness' to it. And the PCM is fked, turns on and off randomly, screen flickers. Might chat to Eporsch about it, she's got a 3 month in-house warranty with them but its no biggie, I was going to rip it out anyway and cant be arsed to drive it back for that.

Plans?

Was going to go straight out and 'backdate' it, but actually I'm just going to drive it for the rest of this year and see where we get to. I'd like to get the seats done - probably get the 911R style grey houndstooth seat centres and door cards done whilst I get the leather bolsters restored. Might get the centre console bit around the handbrake resprayed along with a bit of Alcantara to the Steering Wheel, Gearstick and Handbrake.

I wasn't keen at all on the Turbo style wheels - really wanted Lobsters - but having seen them in the flesh, I've done a complete 360. They need a refurb - the lacquer is bubbling, so might do something with them - black or dark bronze with the faces remaining diamond cut silver.

I have bought a trickle charger, some new reg plates (old ones have holes in wrong place) and.... a resonator delete to see if that improves the sound at all before I get it Gundo hacked / obnoxious back boxes fitted....

Conclusion - have to say, already love it far more than my 992.

We have bonded pretty much instantly cloud9

Are they genuine Porsche wheels? That style wasn't available in narrow body sizes in 2006.

Enjoy, they are lovely things. I've just gone in the opposite direction from a 997.1 like yours to an EV, but of all the generations I think these are the sweet spot.

Got the build sheet via the VIN, they are listed on there, so assume they are original!

I'm fortunate in that my EV a company car, so its still with me (Polestar AWD 300kW) - to be honest, I don't think I could do 25k miles a year in the 911. Definitely got the best of both worlds on the drive now though.

Looks like a really good buy and it’s interesting to hear that your already into it more than the 992!

7.5k service/maintenance bill is a monster

How were Eporsch?I missed out on a 987 they had in recently.

another one here with a full fat Polestar and a 997, don’t have a pic of the Polestar, suppose that speaks volumes for the Porsche !

I think you'd get on well! I had an Elise for a few years (S1) back in 1999 when they were fairly new out. Loved it, but it was a compromise, and in a weird way this thing is in that the M030 Suspension is quite harsh and you feel every imperfection in the road. But I can confirm after a Herefordshire blast this morning to meet a fellow Porschist for breakfast, it absolutely comes alive on an A road and semi-sensible speeds.

The great thing about my EV is that its (nearly) got that 0-50mph launch thing out of my system. Nothing will catch an EV on that front. This is all about twisties and noise. It actually feels slow with 'only' 350 horses wink

Yeah, it wasn't the cheapest out there, and I've spent a good few months looking. The good ones go really quickly, like within 24hrs on Autotrader, the not so good / overpriced stick around for weeks / months. There are cars still on there now that I was looking at in November. After looking at a couple and shelling out £££ for inspections, I just made a list of specialists, called them, told them what I wanted and how much I had.

Eporsch actually did an inspection on another one for me (which looked lovely but had Borescore issues). Then had a call 3-4 weeks ago to say they had one coming in from one of their customers and it was a good one. True to their word, they had it in, Borescoped it, gave me a list of stuff they thought needed doing and got on with it. I placed a deposit blind as I was out in Canada at the time and didn't want to let it go, especially with the M030 spec.

So far so good, they've done what they said and they reckon it should be good without major bills for a few years. They recommend an oil change annually, and if it hasn't scored yet, its reasonably unlikely to, but absolutely get a fund together especially if its a keeper as every 5-10 years you will get a big bill, if not the engine then something else. Good people to chat Porsche to for sure and their storage place will certainly get the dribble flowing!

That green is beautiful cloud9

They are a brilliant combination for sure, electric launch speed thrills coupled with a howling B-road chaser. I don't think the 911 would see which way the Polestar went in the real world, but that's not what I bought it for!

And a very very different experience to the 992 for sure - the 992 was beautiful to look at, fabulous interior, loads of tech, but like the Polestar in many ways, just Point-and-Shoot fast. Too fast and not involving. It came alive at prison speeds but I value my freedom.

This thing however needs to be driven. The short shift is grumpy until its warmed up, the ride rearranges your internal organs around town, there's compartively little torque (I'm used to an EV) but on a fast bendy Herefordshire A-Road this morning, with the revs kept north of 3,000 everything just made sense and we've now more than bonded, we are past talking, we are boyfriend and girlfriend biggrin

Atlas grey which I didn't spot at first glance, better than Black in my onion. First reg Feb 2006 so not the silly 660 road tax too. Says last change of ownership V5C in May 21 so after the Feb 21 Hartech rebuild. No idea the relevance of this but just mentioning it anyway. MOT history quite clean in last couple of years - link below - but not nice in 2020 with what looks like at least 12 months without an MOT and a big list of failures. Presumably all addressed in the big Feb 21 refurb.
