Just to add a bit of confusion..... My dad had a 997.1 C4S from new in Dec 06. A well specced manual with almost £20k of options on, this included GT Silver, Aero Body, factory SSK, PSE, Sports Seats, Bose, Sport Design steering wheel.......

I drove that car infrequently, so based on that experience and a life long love affair with 911’s I bought a 997.2 GTS and hated driving it, it was gone inside 3 months. The PDK box always wanted to hunt for a gear I didn’t want to be in, I assumed the refined .2 had lost its feel over the .1 but based that solely on a none compliant auto box. And a bit more sound proofing and the fact it had no PSE ?

My Dads .1 went to his mate who covered about 4K miles in 6 years, he swapped it for a 50th which he loves and has never looked back. He phoned me the year before last and told me his mate was selling due to lack of use, Brexit etc so I bought my dads old car !

In between selling the GTS and acquiring the .1 I dabbled in 987 territory, which was great in the summer, but to me felt more like a Toyota MR2 than. any 911 I’ve ever driven. Of course all the Boxster drivers will disagree with this and I probably wasn’t feeling the love for a Porsche That wasn’t 911 flavoured but I couldn’t bring myself to feel any occasion let alone any sense of ?

Re the 997.2, I've read that it's not without potential engine problems. Is that true?

Many thanks.
What is the source of your concerns?
Can;t remember his name but the guy from Harlech who are the people to go to on the IMS issue posted on here a while ago asking if people had reported any major engine issues on 997.2 issues. Think they’d come across a few cases and were trying to see if it was anything significant. That was a while ago so i am guessing not.
The Gen 2 engines have been out for long enough now without any reports of common issues. We are 12 years into the DFI units... that is Pretty much the length of the entire lifecycle of M96 and M97 combined and their issues were very well known by the time Porsche finally moved away from these crap designs.
Indeed. I didn't rush to sell my 997 GTS fearing of a new engine debacle.

LOL it was a relief when I sold my M97 after 4 years and I was changing into a Maserati!

I had a 987 2.7 firstly.
Went to a 997.1 C4S, massive step up
Then got a Maserati GT, and needed a station car / something that could go up the ramp at Waitrose (GT wouldn’t clear it) and missed the 997 so bought a 987S to rekindle the flame. Much as I loved it it was too far removed from the 997 for me to really love it, didn’t keep it a year.

The 997 feels much more like an ordinary car than the Boxster ever did so in that sense it’s less of an occasion but the 997 is faster and more exciting with its unique 911 layout. Really I would have like to have been able to have both.
That's strange as that's the opposite of how I would describe them! My Boxster 3.2S felt like an ordinary car, but the 997 feels more of an occasion.
Bert
I have had 2 3.2 Boxsters & a 3.4 Boxster. The 3.4 I bought second hand from OPC for £32K had it four years when I traded it in against a 997.1 3.6 TipS. I got £18K PX so lost £14K in 4 years. At first I thought the 997 felt very heavy compared to Boxsters ( which it will be ). I’ve had the 997 (2007) for six years now and it is thrilling every time (nice days) I climb into it & go for a drive round the Lake District or similar. I would not go back to a Boxster but as someone said previously it would be nice to have both. yes

I did try and arrange a 997.2RS get together earlier this year, but in the end it was just me an 30 other GT3’s - mainly 991’s
It would be ace to sort something out pref when there’s a better handle on the Covid situation so I can put a package together for an exclusive weekend event.
That would be mega. I did see the meet thread but couldn’t make it in the end sorry.

My two sausages don’t really do 997’s just to be clear - they prefer Audi. Biscuit rations are on the line here.....

Superb but yes I reckon I can get her knickers off in a 911, could not have done that in a 7

Just had the car go through a wheel and paint "re-fresh"....looks minty now.

In my opinion - 997's are seriously great VFM.....therefore worth spending a little on it....man maths at least???
