Me too. That green smile grille makes my teeth itch though.
: ) I will see how it looks when it all comes together. Very easy to change back. Am experimenting with a lot of things in one go so will see later

How many grams will another coat of paint add though?

Great work, M32GER!

Re the plastic windows, the desert heat will be murder I'm afraid. My plastic windows are a horrible milky shade now. In the end when I put the car back to road spec, I put the glass back in the rear 3/4 and the rear windscreen. Besides the rear plastic screen was so flimsy I felt like I was having a Scooby Doo flashback every time I looked in the rear view.

I still have plastic for the driver and passenger side windows, but that's because the doors are carbon.

Keep the updates coming!

cool ah yes this does worry me and you are probably right. I did pay extra for all the coatings etc but I guess time will tell. The car will park indoors and won't drive in the summer months but even so its still damn hot in the Spring / Autumn.... will definitely be keeping the stock windows safely to one side

Enjoying the thread and the updates on the weight saving. I've been in contact with Manthey but unfortunately they only do the door cards for LHD. Could you take a picture of the rear side of the door cards, interested in the area the electric window button sits in the card as this is the only reason I can think of which would differ for RHD to LHD.

Many thanks

Jon

Thank you Steve for the kind words. Jon, yes sure will do tomorrow for you, shame about the LHD only, I didn't realise that.

In the meantime some more progress over the past day or so:

Love the ducktail. The cup spoiler makes bigger all difference, the ducktail is so much more understated.

Love this project, and the thought process behind it. Ducktail is great with the centre-exit exhausts.

I would have taken the opportunity to convert to 997.2 lights as they look so much better particularly on GT models.

I beg to differ. I have always preferred the 997.1 lights especially the rear ones.

997.1 looks old like a 2000 996 IMO, .2 much sharper especially with the grill in the PU

You guys have hit on a big debate we had over and over. I am also in the camp of preferring the older style chunkier rear lights and so consciously decided not to make the conversion. But it is a personal choice and I know many will want the .2 look. Actually my old C2 on page 1/2 did have the front and rear gen 2 conversion but not for this one. The car is a gen 1 and proud to be one thumbup

I must admit, the grill in the rear PU is a lovely detail on the 7.2 GT3. I really love it - for me it just adds that absolute final bit of motorsport icing to the cake. It's probably that, very nearly as much as the 3.8 litre engine, that would tempt me to pay more for a 7.2 over my 7.1.

The .2 above is epic no question and funnily enough is the very car that drove the original inspiration for my build. Only I thought, how about doing my own take on it and actually remove a little bit of the GT3 styling and this was before I had ever heard of a GT3 Touring. But for me, the .1 rear is more beautiful. Simpler in design. But I accept I am probably in the minority there. Each generation seems to add bigger wings and more vents. I think the .1 was the sweetspot visually RS wise. In an ideal world I would have the .1 looks and the .2 engine. So failing that I just need to get the engine to go pop so I can use some man maths and justify a Manthey conversion. Going to take a lot of track days though with a Mezger....

The .1 also creates the illusion of a wider stance which I like

Yes, it does sort of. I think it's that horizontal 'rib' that bisects the vents at each side.
