In an ideal world I would have the .1 looks and the .2 engine.
My good friend Richie has just such a car. He's on here as CarreraLightweightRacing, he's also doing a 996 build to be as light as possible but retains useability with GT3 performance... Top stuff!

Great stuff. Please do encourage him to post some pics as I didn't intend this thread to be only about my build. Thought it could be a nice place for anyone interested in modifying 997s (and 996) to share pictures and ideas

Thanks Jim wink

Perhaps this thread is a little more appropriate here, as it is my 997GT3RS rather than 996. This is about as mental as you could wish for, full carbon panels, engine capacity increase, gearbox revision to Gen II RS spec, PAS removal, coilovers, Full Akrapovic Titanium...

But more importantly; a cracking car you are creating here OP and thanks for sharing the project on PH. I wish you all the best with it and look forward to hearing how it translates when finished wink

ETA: For the record I prefer the looks of the rear of the Gen1. In the case of my car it is a gen1 but with a gen II engine and gearbox plus the genII engine cover/spoiler assembly like so:

Wow. Now that is a modified and track focussed car. Bet it is an absolute weapon. Enjoyed reading though the entire thread. Shame about the sales process though, seems to have been a real pain. Am building mine as a long long term keeper so fingers crossed won't have to go through as for sure once modified heavily they are much harder to sell. I won't be taking mine quite so far though as it is primarily a road car that will also be used for track days from time to time.

I think you are taking a good approach to your project m32ger and you'll end up with a fantastic focused 911. Dubai is also a great place to undertake all the work you are having done as the labour rates are very reasonable. Might be a bit loud with the Akra evo race system (No cats). I have the 100cpsi system; with over 3000rpm and 30mins driving then ear defenders are a must.

I think there is a very good chance you are right on the noise front : ) I do have the cats also which can be bolted in pretty quickly so might run cats on the road and the straight pipes only for the track. But will be loud regardless given all the sound proofing is removed and the windows plastic. At least there are no noise restrictions out here on track which is just great. The noise of cars that people bring to track days is hilarious sometimes.

Enjoying the thread and the updates on the weight saving. I've been in contact with Manthey but unfortunately they only do the door cards for LHD. Could you take a picture of the rear side of the door cards, interested in the area the electric window button sits in the card as this is the only reason I can think9 of which would differ for RHD to LHD.

Many thanks

Jon

Some good progress in recent days on the interior. Very happy with how the seats have turned out. These used to be in my old red 997 C2 but with red backs and red stitching. We tested two different colours for the alcantara and will go with the dark shade for the seat cushions as per the dash (see below) so will change the cushions shortly to match.

And the dash, or at least part of it, in alcantara with contrast stitch. Decided to delete the chrono clock thing as don't personally see the use of it these days and prefer a cleaner uncluttered look

And a few other interior bits also in alcantara with the contrast stitch where appropriate. Rest should be finished over the coming days

Wow!

Out of curiosity, who did the seats?

Missed this one, interested local observer here.

I live over the road from Dubai Autodrome, would love to see/hear this at full chat once it's built and if you venture away from Yas Island!

Thanks, the upholstery and painting of the smaller items are done in house. Its a friend of mine's workshop called GeTech Motorsport

I haven't made it down to the Autodrome yet but for sure will plan to once it is ready. I do a lot of my trackdays in my Westfield which is more of a pain to take to Dubai on a trailer but can just drive the GT3 down so will be much easier

I know almost no one would spec a sunroof for a GT3 in Europe, or at least I wouldn't but down here it is hard to find one without, hence my having to switch it out. The weight saving is pretty good at 24.9lbs (11.3kg) Worth baring in mind for anyone with a track focussed Carerra or other model that has a sunroof.

How’s the (re-)build going?
Must be nearly there now?
