Has anyone seen EVO magazines review of the GT3 Touring this month. It’s really poor. It’s lazy. I’ve been an avid EVO fan since the early days, but it’s getting really bad. I’m considering cancelling my subscription.
I've been pretty vocal about my disappointment with Evo over the last couple of months, I mean they've been really poor to the point of almost self destruction.

But what else can they do about the car? It's simply a manual GT3, it can't possibly drive any different to the normal car can it-it's just an option code to be ticked. You wouldn't expect a four page review of a normal car but fitted with the leather interior option in addition to the other would you?

Apart from that, I understand your thoughts about cancelling brother, my goodness it's gotten poor.

In the old days, EVO would probably have got the GT3 Touring, alongside a 911R, and probably then even got a old school RS Touring as a good excuse to do a feature in the swiss alps, driving all three and providing some great editorial content and amazing pictures. To me it looks like the 'talent' has left and/or they are running out of money.

Agree, the article read as if Adam Towler hadn’t even driven the car. Yes, it’s entirely correct to say the Touring is the same as the standard manual GT3 ‘sans’ a rear wing, but as far as i am aware EVO haven’t actually reviewed a manual GT3 yet, as the first drive article earlier last year and a few months ago’s ‘heroes’ comparison with a 996 GT3 were both PDK equiped cars. Together with the very luke warm T review, It reads almost like EVO have had a falling out with Porsche PR dept ! Anyway, whatever, I wasn’t expecting much given how off the boil the magazine has gone over the last couple of years.

Sad indeed. EVO used to be the benchmark in motoring journalism for me. It has degraded to a level where I have the suspicion the only staff that's left is the photographer and the articles are primarly press statements with some smallish AI editing.

I'd happily pay double or triple the subscription price if they brought the old level of quality back

Surely the Press Cars get retailed through one of the Porsche GB OPC's ? Or am I wrong ?!
Chief,

Reading have them all back then each OPC bids for them. The highest bid gets the car. Thats basically how is works.

It's the same with the company owned / director's cars - I almost bought Chris Craft's Panamera GTS a while ago!

I have two subscriptions. One for myself and the other for my 12 year old nephew. I'll be cancelling as well. I appreciate that there may be budgetary contraints but someone has failed to recognise the reasons EVO was the best car magazine out there. Has anyone noticed that the paper smells? I've actually stopped opening them now.

I had to look through the magazine twice to find the Touring article and agree, waste of time. I get that it is a GT3 Manual but there are so many interesting road trips or features they could have done.

In other news, my car is built and on its way!

At the risk of being vilified in a gt3 touring thread- I thought their piece was pretty reasonable. Porsche could have done more with the touring as a model.

perhaps, yes, but what ? if one looks back at previous Tourings ('72 2.7 RS and '91 964 RS) the differences were fairly minor. extra sound proofing, extra optional equipment (sunroof, leccy windows etc), rear seats, but identical mechanicals though. it's only the rear seats that Porsche could have done that they did not, without a howl of derision, and perhaps that was not feasible due to German homologation regs (I don't know of course).

it's just an option code, my point regarding the EVO article was that I thought the review rather pointless and negative, as frankly it would have been an opportunity to highlight the differences between a PDK and manual GT3.

perhaps EVO are trying to reconnect with a large element of their readership who are sick of Porsche's being the best car available except that limited supply frustrates so many people who'd like a GT2/3/4 etc and can't get one, which is understandable.

When I was first asked to place a deposit last March and told I might get a 2018 car....I was very excited

When I was told I had a build slot I was very, very excited

Not really sure what the two weeks leading up to delivery will be like!

Actually how they told me I had an allocation was pretty good. We were picking up my wife's Boxster before Xmas, she got given a very nice Jo Malone gift and then I got given a small box to open. Inside was a model of a 991.2 GT3 biggrin

Rear seats for one
I guess could they have taken the car closer to the R rather than just a bewinged gt3.

That's a great touch! I'm looking forward to seeing a model of a 918.2 when I pick up my Touring!

yep, i feel your pain. the first 911 i ever had any proper seat time in was my brothers '89 3.2 Clubsport. what a wonderful car that was, halcyon days. but such is progress, and todays buyer/legislator wants all the deadweight that Porsche used to throw out to create a drivers focused model.
