What are the differences engine wise? Can't look at the video right now...
The .2 has a supposedly near to everlasting fixed valvetrain laugh and more mid range torque/higher rev limit.

I have now configured the Touring for my December build and has been accepted by my OPC.
There seems to be an issue with the UK config as if you spec a rear view camera it adds a wing to the build image??
However I'm really looking forward to driving wingless analogue to Le Mans and Monaco next year! driving

Excuse the ignorance, but what is the real difference between the GT3 Touring and the 911R?

Aside from (theoretical) availability, is it the lack of carbon panels?
Engine, Carbon panels, MAG roof, ltd ed car, single mass flywheel, plastic rear window, less sound insulation. 70KG lighter than the normal GT3

Yep - I got all excited by APs comments about it being not limited by volume and spoke to my OPC (Edinburgh) first thing this morning. They confirmed no more cars, just a spec option on existing second batch cars.....Oh well, such is life!
Yep. I have no idea why they keep saying this stuff - really odd smile
Customer: I've heard of this touring pack GT3, will this mean I've a chance of getting one now as I've not been allocated anything yet as I really want one?
Porsche Salesman: *sucks air through teeth* Sorry sir, we aren't getting anymore GT3's as this is only an option on the current allocations which are sadly all spoken for.
Customer: But but but.....AP said it wasn't limited????
Porsche Salesman: It's not limited in as far as we can sell as many as we want.....of the cars allocated to us.
Customer: Ok, I'm totally confused now. Can I have a car?
Porsche salesman: No sir I'm afraid not but why not pop down and try a 911 GTS or Turbo. Those are much better propositions in my opinion.
Don't get me wrong : I get it ....., I just don't get it - if you know what I mean smile

lots the new GT3 touring has the new engine based from the RSR.

the R has the 991.1 RS engine with lower rev limit and the choice of lightweight flywheel or standard.

The new engine is a whole new back to 9krevs race engine with loads more torque.
Is the body of the car the same width ?

No longer that easy in Germany unfortunately - I could have bought a GT4 at the time, but getting an RS was not easily possible. New GT3 etc similar to U.K. nowadays - lots of deposits at the dealers and fewer cars

I also spoke to mine, up until yesterday I was still hopefull of an allocation for next year but after yesterdays conversation that hope is fading.

What's particularly annoying is that most of the UK press reports say something along the lines of "Porsche has listened to their customers and is now giving them what they want". I know they are referring to the manual gearbox but it's still annoying.

More GT cars allocations is what we want, not more option choices on the few GT allocations they give UK customers.

Are they saying you wont get one or they are not getting any more allocation ?

They said they still don't know how many allocations they will get for 2018 and that I am still on the list "allong with many others". Previous conversations the sales guy sounded confident I'd get one but now if feels like he's starting to manage my expectations.

Maybe they'll allocate more cars to Germany given they make (a lot) more profit on them there .... just kidding

Simply after ordering two years ago , told that I will not get one as only ordered 1 GT3 and serviced for 7 years ( 30 k miles ) from OPC . Told straight not a big enough customer . Simple.
Yes I have numerous race Porsches which use globally but not really a Cayenne kind of guy so that is that ...

Really? I'm quite surprised by that to be hoenst. the RS was definitely gettable as I understand in germany but just took some time to feed through as initial numbers were low but allocations kept coming. I'd expect much the same to happen for the .2 gt3 to be honest and would be reasonably certain I could get a french or german gt3 if I wanted one.

Over here in Switzerland it should not be hard to get one either.
But then again, we do like our Porsches! For comparison: CH has 1/3 of UK sales (CH: 4'500 UK: 13'500) so that equals to one new Porsche for 1'800 inhabitants vs one new Porsche for 4'800 inhabitants in the UK. biggrin

But then again, they charge us about 1/3 more (GT3 CH: £146k UK: £110k) for every one of them frown

Fair point - sorry I should have been clearer - I think both are based on the width of the C4 - is that right ? smile

Interesting stats. I guess it's a combination of lower margins and RHD production being the reason for fewer UK cars. Then again they could always increase the price - after I've paid for mine that issmile

In fairness on the RS I could have gotten one in Austri, but was hospitalized when the dealer called (not good enough driver for a GT2....) and then after missing that allocation, I did not follow up anymore as rwd cars dropped off the list for a while. The Few German dealers I spoke to, said no chance at the time of the launch though. I think the RS was the first one where it was not straight forward anymore and you probably had to keep pestering multiple dealers for a while. As an aside at the time you could still walk in and buy a Speciale no issues, they even dropped below list for a while, but at some point after prices shot up to above list, where they remain today.

For the 991.2 I have the contract here and need to sign it/wire the money to get on the list, but the guy said it is not looking good as he has a drawer full of contracts already. Delivery date in the contract is 7-2018 I believe, so we will see how many new allocations open up

I actually found the buckets in the 997 CS really comfortable for touring
Don't want the blipper or the steering either, but it is just sign of the times etc - as long as they give me a manual and a high revving engine, I am already happy - easy to please ....
