Have you owned a 997 GTS, Carerra T and an 991.2 3.0 GTS? I have and the T feels more like a 997 GTS than a 991.2 GTS... 997 GTS was considerably heavier than the T in the right spec and with the extra torque, well, if you’ve owned them you would undetstand the corilation.

bar the 997 GTS has 405bhp and a engine which keeps reving and making BHP to red line and was the top 997 non GT car.

The T is the base car of the line 911 range the 991.2 GTS is the 997 GTS in the right spec. please !!!!
Great package the 997 GTS.

Feels lardy compared to the T though.

I think a 997 GTS in the right spec I.e. manual, RWD and no sun roof is the same weight as a T. I remember comparing the weights when the T was first launched....T has the torque but GTS has more bhp.

Would make a great back to back comparison.

I’ve got a manual 2wd GTS if anyone’s interested ?!?! OPC has offered me their T that they are running at the moment might have to do my own. I did similar with their demo manual 991.2 GTS last summer which I loved but couldn’t persuade myself to part with the 997.

997 GTS was an attractive package but not much different / better to drive than a standard 997 C2S. 991.1 GTS was more night and day the better car than the 991.1 C2S. 991.2 GTS is *IMO* the best Porsche to wear the GTS badge yet. Not driven a T but can imagine in manual spec they are quite good fun for a modern 911. Could just of done with either being a bit cheaper (£78-80k?), or a bit more effort thrown at it i.e. lighter / more unique. Good residuals however will make it a good ownership proposition..

was out in mine early this am on great roads around the A31 had a fantastic drive. Coming back this afternoon weather took a significant turn for the worse and was fun driving the same roads back in the wet, when its clear ahead the car gives you loads of confidence, but really loses grip quite easily in the wet at low speeds and heavy throttle compare to the NA 911s am used to . Its a RWD GTS so its quite a new combination for 911s barring the GT2s which are quite something else.

Chris - I agree, they do look particularly good in silver, especially with the ceramic brakes.

I would probably have chosen that combination but was very keen to keep costs as low as possible and saved a fair amount sticking to yellow and standard brakes. I do like the yellow though, I have never had a yellow car before for one thing and it does amuse the inner child in me a little!
Haha, I was 50:50 but wife preferred GTS smilesmile

New Carrera T review from Janko Lind... worthy of the rare 1987 club sport title (53 rhd uk supplied and 340 worldwide). Driver focussed car if spec’d manual and 918 buckets (a crime not to do so) and a future collector’s car.

Lost credibility when he claimed the gearbox is as good as the GT3s.

Not far off but not as good.

Bizarrely, the clutch in the T is better than the 3.

Finally.... my yellow T is home. First thoughts after a 110 mile trip averaging a very impressive 32.5mpg.

Looks even better in the flesh despite having watched T videos ad nauseam. Size wise it seems pretty much the same as my now ex 997 GTS 4.

Seating height appears higher which is preferable and much more comfortable in the LWB’s (who'd have thought!) than the 18 ways which gave me numb bum on the way there after an hour. The visibility is excellent and the cabin appears brighter too with a faultless T interior.

I much prefer the steering wheel - not as chunky as in the GTS 4 and reminded me of my 997.1 C2. Infact, the driving style reminded me very much of the 997.1 with the engine rumbling at low speeds that it has definitely captured something of that era.

The electric steering is superb and i would never know it wasn’t hydraulic. My only criticism is downshifting from 6th to 5th as it naturally wants to spring into 3rd but I suspect this will settle down.

Sound wise - I was surprised that I enjoyed the sound of the turbo's whistling and the engine sounds great at lower speeds but whilst it doesn’t quite have the N/A howl it sure as hell drives like one. Absolutely, no complaints on power delivery. Porsche has done a fantastic job with this engine. It’s plenty powerful enough and it’s truly a fun car to throw about that harks back to a previous era but with all the mod cons.

Another thought... the T just feels so agile and honestly makes my 997 GTS 4 feel like a heavy weight lump and it's just great to be driving a manual again.

I wonder if anyone else thinks this? Just had to take it out again for another drive - wow - it's such a fun car. I've finally found the right car and one that I could live with for the many years it will take to pay it off!

I’m 2k miles into mine over the last 2 months and can only agree that something is just right about this car, especially with the LWB’s for me. Glad you’ve got the bug immediately with yours. Looks great in Racing Yellow btw

Agree with all your enthusiasm for the T, I'm really enjoying mine. There is a degree of imprecision in the downchange from 6th to 5th, but it becomes much better with familiarity...Blame that overdriven 7th gear in there...!

I have to say that my gear change is spot-on, although I could easily live with one less ratio

My only gripe so far is that I think it needs a decent geo - fast mid-corner bumps seem to upset it more than I'd expect

Have you got the folding buckets ? It's one of the things I think is odd about them to be honest they sit quite high in the car at least they were in the 991.2 GTS I drove which had them. I'm just over 6ft and found them too high.

Have a look at your tyre pressure..... My first T was set up at comfort pressure from the dealers and it was composed etc.... The new one was at standard (probably actually at full load, I don’t think they checked from transit) ........and was absolutely awful....took it down to 29 at front and 31 at rear and it’s great again..... Changed it halfway around the EVO Triangle and it was like chalk and cheese.....

Don’t go over 165 mph though.....the manual says you will ‘destroy your wheels’

Worth a look....
