Anyone for ‘T’
Discussion
I think having rear seats is always a plus.
Can anyone tell me how long the drive in period is? Bought mine new and picked it up last weekend. Cruised the autobahn driving it home
First impression car looks stunning (yellow one) but it feels slower, read not so responsive as my RS3. Hmmm...

Mine now has 550PS and will see off a GT3 never mind a RS3.

It felt like a barge in comparison and did nothing for me. Just a giant cruiser.
That's true, but you could say the same thing about each generational change - 2.4 > 993, 993 > 996, 997 > 991. All cars all seem to be getting bigger, heavier and more complex. Which is a shame, as our roads and space to drive them isn't expanding.

Owners, what mode do you drive your car?
In normal mode I feel the car lagging. Sport seems to be the better default.
I enjoy Sport when the road is clear. Otherwise it’s the compliance of the car in standard mode which surprises me - the suspension and rides on back roads is pretty remarkable. That said I’m a sucker for the exhaust button. In standard mode the first to second to third changes remind me very much of mid 2000s normally aspirated car. In any event the pick-up with the turbo masks any laziness in my gear-changing!In normal mode I feel the car lagging. Sport seems to be the better default.
I probably need to grow up but in the meantime tend to push the exhaust button every time I use an underpass. Interestingly
the sport plus setting turns the exhaust off probably because it adds back pressure when in use.
Overall I love the car, having only thought of keeping for 6 months whilst GT3 prices sorted themselves out I now intend running the T

A new Shmee video with a super cool New York car collection including a Yellow T in the company of not one but two 911R's, GT2 RS, GT3 RS, GT3 and some fantastic Ferrari's etc etc. A really colourful collection.

I've been deliberating over adding a GT3 or Boxster Spyder to compliment my manual T with LWB's. Having not driven a GT car I thought 4 laps in a 991.1 GT3 RS would be a good starting point. Well the result was not what I expected. Yes, I absolutely loved the GT3 RS - what's not to love about this car on the track... but surprisingly it didn't feel so very different from the T maybe because the T is stripped out and also has the all important buckets?? (NB. I'm not comparing bhp just the overall feeling as I'm looking at cars for the road not track) But I have to say, I was shocked by this revelation. And yes, if I wanted to do more track driving well no question the GT3 RS would be on the wish list. But driving back home on the pot holed UK roads, instead of feeling short changed with the perceived "lesser" T, I have actually found an even greater appreciation for this car. I would also like to add, I was fully prepared to be blown away by the GT3 RS and the possible fall out with owning the T but fortunately for my bank balance that hasn't happened.
I've also been reading the 'GT3 jealous' thread and I have to say even though public reaction continues to be fantastic towards my bright yellow T - the two main sticking points for a GT3 are: The wing and potential for negative reaction and is it just too much car for the road?? I'm also thinking that it just wouldn't compliment a T and therefore one of them would become redundant.
Hence, why I have been drawn to the 981 Boxster Spyder with its open top motoring, N/A 911 engine note and a 6 speed gearbox. I'm big on noise and that's probably the biggest draw for me especially the 981 model.
I'm very curious as what other people on here think who have owned a T and perhaps traded/added a GT3 or Spyder. Again, I'm really looking at the best cars for just spirited road driving and Euro trips.

These cars are all colour sensitive especially the GT3 the colour of which will have a huge impact on the amount of attention it gets.
The 981 Spyder is a good package and in some ways more convincing than the GT4 which is let down by it's non GT engine.
The engines in the GT4 and Spyde are broadly similar but the Spyder is a few bhp down not that this matters in the real world.
For road use there really is little difference in performance and handling between the GT4 and Spyder despite the Spyders non GT3 suspension and non cup tyres.
What is different is the sound. Not suited to a some people the Spyder has a somewhat farty exhaust in Sport and Sport plus which is ott imo but I hate fake sound. Although thinking about it, this is probably no worse than the T in Sport and Sport plus mode.
The GT3(991.2) really is in a different league largely due to the engine which is a masterpiece. A much more hardcore package and too hardcore for some.
In terms of usability the Spyder scores highly with no issurs on front clearance as it obviously does on fun factor too.
The gearbox in the Spyder is a gem although the ratios ate high this matters less than in the GT4. The box is better than the T which suffers from vagueness in the throw in the upper gears. The Spyder clutch is better weighted than the T which is too light imo but I like heavier clutches.
981 Spyder could be a good call as we approach winter prices will soften being a cab but ultimately I think they will residually do very well especially having regard to the likely inferior sound and greater weight of the 718 which could also be even more expensive than it's hugely inflated current price plus a potential 10% Brexit surcharge on top.
Final point the Spyder like the GT4 and GT3 is hugely spec sensitive and there are alot of poorly or inappropriately specced cars about.

Great feedback AV185. I know I would love a hardcore GT3 or even a GT3 RS and start doing more track days as I really did have fun today and I enjoyed the PDK box too but that is probably one for the future. In the meantime, I think it's the 981 Spyder with its juvenile pops and bangs which I quite like especially as they've been ditched on the more mature muted 718 Spyder. Look forward to hearing the comparisons between the 981 vs 718 when owners start getting them.
