Yes, breaking with convention, and rather than doing a factory re-tool for the new car in the 4 week summer shutdown in August, they’ll do it instead on a single weekend in April….sounds credible to me…!
Would you be kind enough to expand on the convention that you are refering to?!

My 992 C4S which was a completely new model, not just a .2 model was delivered to the center in mid April 2019 and collected by me late April 2019. That was the first car that they recieved! rolleyes

Reality is, no one outside the company really knows!
Porsche has over 1,300 suppliers who make millions of parts. Having worked in OEM automotive engineering, they’ll all know what they’re supplying and when.
This.

In addition to this many people are involved in the marketing arrangements, financial planning, etc all of whom will know when vehicles will be launched, especially when it is something like the .2 model of their flagship model!

Didn't the 991 stop production in Oct 2018, 992 announced in Nov 2018. UK first cars in early 2019? 991.1 to 991.2 changeover happened Sep 2015, in the fourth year after the 991 released. Porsche is usually very regimented to product refresh so most motoring press and journalists expecting the changeover this year. Likely the .1 stopping production some time in Q3/4. Any allocations offered in June/July would be for Q3/4 build. So could well be the last.

I'll try....

During a mid lifecycle model year update, like from 991.1 to 991.2, a 4 week shutdown window is sufficient for production tooling changes (and for supplier component updates) to change to the revised model, and production can ramp up quite quickly after the shutdown. With 996.2, 997.2 and 991.2 model year change, facelift models were usually available from around October following the summer shutdown.

Meanwhile, for a full model change, as when 991.2 migrated to 992, the factory tooling and supplier change is more significant, and takes longer. Production ramps up more slowly as pre production and confirmation prototype vehicles are built and signed off, and full production doesn't usually ramp up until February or March after the summer shutdown. During this time, the run out models of the last generation will continue to be built. Hence why I had a 992 C2S arrive in April 2019, yet my 991.2 GT3RS arrived 5 months later, in September 2019. If you look at 996 C4S, and 997 GT3RS, they also overlapped production of the new facelift models.

So I'd speculate that the 992.2 will be begin full production in late '23 and into early '24, and at the same time, 992.1 GT3RS and maybe other limited run versions will also be produced.

It's been a while since I worked at an OEM supplier, so my experience is a little rusty..!

But to keep this thread loosely connected to the Carrera T, I don't expect it to be produced beyond July 2023.

Thanks for the clarification, however with the pointless lockdowns and now the pointless war in ukraine everything has been thrown out of sync!

I doubt it would be too difficult for an extended break to be put in place in December 2023 for the factory tooling to be changed if it is necessary.

I can catergorically state that production will continue beyond July 2023 fot T's as long as demand is there, as the options i wanted arent available on early cars and i have been told that all options should be available for MY24 cars.

Make of that what you will!!

It would be nice if the T is produced into MY24 as it will be more likely I will get an allocation. If you were offered an allocation and turned it down for a later slot on the basis that it will be in production in MY24 then I hope you are correct. But I don't think the dealers know anything concrete either way ... whether it will continue or whether it won't continue.

This is the issue, I wouldn’t risk turning down an allocation for fear of the car not being available from September ‘23 onwards. I don’t want bucket seats or PCCB, so those parts shortages don’t concern me

I know dealers know more than they let on smile

Im not too fussed either way. If i get the car as i want it great, if not i dont mind not getting one.....only wanted it to have a play around in for a short time until the .2 arrives anyway!

It would be good to know whether Bose will ever be an option. I'm guessing probably not - similar for buckets and ceramics.
Well I've just had a call from my OPC and the official line from from Porsche GB is Bose will never become an option on the T :-(. I'll be very annoyed if it suddenly appears on the MY24 T!!!!

Thanks for getting it confirmed ... sort of expected but still disappointing. I am guessing what is on the configurator is what is available, period.

Never is a word Porsche have used on countless occasions in the past, and then done a U-turn.

Thanks for sharing your views @IREvans , it follows good logic and makes very good sense.

I have a 992 T, Apr-23 build allocation and I am taking it! I also have a Targa 4S on order, forecasted for 1Q2024 and it will be 992.2, even if I have to delay it myself.

We should recognise that 992 T is a parts-bin run-out model and will be produced until surplus 992.1 parts are depleted or send to Parts & Accessories warehouse. Bose, ceramics and carbon seats are probably part of the 992.2 spec, so no need to deplete it.

Cheers Pivo, yes I suspect it will be in the very first UK batch. My GT4 went in December so can’t wait!
