Another Bore Score Question!!!
Discussion
Hi guys,
I'd appreciate your advice, as always.
I've just bought a 997 Gen 1 ... 2005 model year and it's done 57k miles. Its had a bore scope inspection at Zentrum 1000 miles ago, and they confirmed that there was no scoring at that time.
So assuming they're right, what else can I do (aside from avoiding the full throttle at low revs thing mentioned in other threads) to protect it? More frequent oil changes? Different oil?
Thanks,
J.

I had an 06 Cayman S for 8 years - I had no issues in 45000 miles, maybe I was just lucky.
May look just as cars from dealers with good reputations for stock choice and honouring their warranty.
The car I saw today was at an OPC (already sold) but it was very expensive compared to others I have looked at.

Enjoy it?
Seriously. There is a truckload of fear mongering out there. Just bloody enjoy it, use common sense mechanical sympathy.
Yeah, for sure, I will. I'm not going to sit and worry about it. I've already taken the two biggest mitigations (bore scoped and a good warranty in case) so I'm not going to be too bothered. But small things I can do to reduce the risk are only sensible, no?Seriously. There is a truckload of fear mongering out there. Just bloody enjoy it, use common sense mechanical sympathy.
As CMoose says, it's not fear mongering to look a risk in the eye and prepare

On top of the low temp thermostat, you can fit a third rad in the front, as per a 911 Turbo has.
Design911 sell this as a kit. Helps coolant temps reduce even further...

Don't "lug" the engine, i.e. accelerate in too high a gear.I'd appreciate your advice, as always.

Has it got Porsche warranty? If not, could it have?
Congratulations on the new Pork.
Low temp thermostat, 5 or 10k oil changes and wait till the oil temp is 90 degrees before heading over 3k.
Hartech have lots of sage advice here.
Contrary to expectations, adding the 3rd rad might actually make engine cooling worse in some conditions.
Enjoy the car!

It’s always good to have a healthy dose of scepticism, but at the same time not be paranoid and just enjoy the car.
My 996 recently had a full rebuild due to scoring, so my advice is to put some money away with the expectation you may have to do something, but also safe in the knowledge that the symptoms are relatively easy to spot and not terminal in the short term.

I bought my 2005 , 997.1 ,18 months ago after borescope that did show small markings but was advised it was nothing worry about .
6k miles later of regular use and it doesn't smoke , doesn't use oil and both exhaust are always the same colour , it has been a joy to own and drive .
For all the performance cars i have owned i have done my homework and found many reasons on the internet not to go through with them all , Elan Turbo ,3.2 Carrera coupe , 993 coupe , M3 E46, Z3m Coupe . 987 Boxster and now 997 .
All have been great and had no significant problems , amazingly before the internet we bought what we liked and just enjoyed it !
Has anyone got a focus, golf etc they would care to have borescoped to see the results ?
