What upgrade from a 996C4 Cabriolet?

Posting this up on behalf of my Mum

My Mum has had her 996 C4 Cabriolet (tiptronic) for some time now and like the 3.2 manual she had previously she is now finding this cars ride a bit hard and lacking in some creature comforts- her words (she is 65 you know ).

Essentials are

Automatic (Tiptronic)
2 plus 2 (grandchildren etc)

Are newer 911s a softer ride or shall we be looking at other marques?
