Didn’t have it in my 997.1 gt3rs but did in 997.2 gt3rs ( think this was whenit was introduced) and don’t recall using it.

Anyone know how the 991.2 gt3 compares for clearance and if the car is sufficiently low to need it

Unless you are using it solely on track you will need lift.

At £1600 lift on the gen 2 is £1000 cheaper than the gen 1.

A gen 2 without lift will be worth well over £1600 less and also be much harder to sell than an equivalent car with lift so as an option it is a prime example of a no brainer.

I’m with this thinking. If you have to navigate speed bumps and car parks with ramps then maybe, but for me it’s weight and complexity I don’t need.

No reports of lift problems on the gen 1. Not had any issues with it personally either.Fairly simple mechanics.

Covered by warranty anyway. Further upside on talk of Porsche possibly extending too.

Only a fool runs a GT3 without warranty!

I don't spec lifts, as it's extra weight, extra cost, and they all end up scraped anyway if you use them. It's the bumps you don't see that catch you out!
Can see the point if you have to park underground down a ramp every day.

I added lift as many a time I could not use the GT4 where now I can take the GT3 with lift.

On the 997 GT3 IIRC it was a very troublesome option that cost £10k to put right. Ouch!

991.2 GT3 is much more rounded/cilvilised (some may say softer) car than the 997 and a car that gets used a lot more on the road.

I think it's become a "must have" option for a lot of people....from the stats in the US 80 to 90% of cars have it specced. Look at the amount of thread on here about things like taking your GT3 on a ferry....if you want to go to Europe (which a lot of people do with a car like this) it's bloody useful!

I think its essential for using and getting on the euro tunnel. Sure one owner couldn't get on the train because he had no lift ..Or he had to perform a mega scrape.

My first GT3 was without lift as it was a 997.1 and ended up having to carry lengths of wood in the car to negotiate underground car parks on a road trip.

I’ve since ended up with a 997.2 RS and a 991.1 and both HAD to have lift. The 997.2 lift was perfectly reliable and the 991 is too. It’s just an airbag so not too complex.

I can’t see how you can practically drive these cars without one. I need it for car parks, speed bumps and indeed to get in my drive (which isn’t steep). Even with lift activated it is ridiculously low and the projection of the bumper, especially on a 991, makes the angles an issue.

The only time my sales guy has said you must spec this was for lift on the gt3.

+1 - left me completely to my own devices other than lift which he was adamant about.

No issue with Eurotunnel for me, but sounds like most people want a lift.

if you avoid the upper deck on Euro Tunnel, you will be fine without lift.

Or book “high sided vehicles” which puts you in the lorry section - totally flat and wider.

they won't let you on the upper deck any way if they know what they are doing.

I missed my train last time I went as the lower deck was full and I could not get on the upper deck, I went in the lorry section on the next one.

loads of room in those ;-)

you also cannot use any multi story car park, so for me this time Lift was a must have just so I can use it.

if the car is fetching overs and the people buying at overx are rich London guys on the whole they need lift for the under ground London car parks.

You are pretty much screwed selling a car with no lift to the people who can afford to pay overs in the 1st place.

I have to agree with those above I think from experience lift is a must have, I had lift on my 997RS and my 991GT3 both were reliable the 997 was quite slow but the 991 much faster lifting and as has been said for car parks, some speed humps it is necessary. My GT4 does not have lift and I also have had to use pieces of wood to get up slight rises, I hope the next gen GT4 offers it as on a GT car for it to be everyday usable it is a necessity .

hell, I can't even get out of my drive without lift !
and were not talking a huge ramp here - very gently sloping drive, flat road

I'd say its a must
(that and the fact that on the road we live off of, there are 6 sets of speed humps in 0.5 mile...without lift, I'd be scraping over them all !
