This brand new Tiguan is absolutely massive spec and seems to have very minor damage - or am I missing something?

Is it a dent in the roof or a hole? A hole is usually a write off.

Is there a valid technical reason why a hole in the roof wouldn't be fixed or is the write-off down to some bureaucratic nonsense? Seems to me they could simply weld a new piece of metal in and then respray the whole roof panel or just replace the whole roof panel.

Hole left open for extended period leaving to significant water ingress, electrical problems, stinky interior?

No price?

I thought replacing a roof skin was relatively straightforward?

I think there's even a thread on here where someone had put a carbon roof skin on their M3 project, fairly straightforward bodyshop job, no?

P.S. you can’t satisfactorily repair a roof panel, you have to replace it.

Surely something more than just the hole in the roof. The fact they have gaffer taped it up surely suggests much more.

Ridiculous that minor roof damage is regarded as a write off by insurance, it is a walk in the park compared to this:

It's NWO. Not recorded.

I'm taking that to mean it's Not Written Off... So it's being flogged off for whatever they can get for it, rather than repaired and retailed. New and unregistered...? Would YOU want a brand-spanker that's had a roof skin and headlining? Any wiring damage behind there?

As a rough rule of thumb, if you can get it with a panoramic roof, the skin's probably just glued on, so a relative doddle to repair.

That's a hole not a dent. I don't think you would put tape over a dent! lol.

Would a radio aerial go there? Perhaps misjudged a low beam and not done the wiring loom any good in the "enforced removal".

It does say "aerial" and that could be a multiplug visible in the tape, so it's a possible, but the rails are untouched. B'sides, isn't the taped-up bit off to one side?

Seems clear enough that they've just shrugged and want it out the way with minimal hassle and no come-back from a hacked-off customer.

I had a story told to me by a vauxhall dealer tech that the first load of zafiras transported by rail were written off because of electrical damage due to the aerials being taller than an astra and the overhead train power cables arced to them, and that on subsequent loads they removed the aerials. Not sure if it was true or not but perhaps something similar here, lightning damage or the aerial came into contact with a busbar.

Looks like the aerial has been ripped clean off. If you look at the next vehicle in their list it has similar damage to the roof and aerial. Drives me nuts seeing brand new cars damaged already!

Thats the bottom line really - the dealer doesnt want to retail a car with what would end up being an extensive repair.

In that sense - fair play to the dealer.

Would getting a roof panel be tricky on such a new car?

...seems fairly conclusive!

About £7k off list on that particular car.
