115k mls too much for 8V 2013 Audi A3 2.0 TDI S line FASH?
Discussion
I have been looking at these for a while waiting for them to come down in price. I have seen a 13 Plate 2.0 tdi 150 S line on Auto trader for £8250 with Full Audi History, 2 Owners but with 115k miles. I used to own a 2007 8P 2.0 tdi 140 S line and ran it up to 136k miles. I traded it in at 9 years old as it was started to lose a bit of water and a few sensors started to go.
Are these newer cars reliable and do you think 112k is too excessive for a 13 Plate car even though its got Full Service History from Audi.

I'd have no issues at all with that mileage, as long as it was supported by proper evidence.
Think of it this way, an average of 30k miles per year says longer journeys, so less starting/stopping cycles, less clutch and brake use and generally less chance of something going wrong. You still need to do your homework, but that sort of mileage shouldn't be an issue at all.
115k miles in +10 years is much worse considering the abuse the car may have had.
I ran an A3 150PS TDi for 3 years between 2010 and 2013 and did 95k miles and the car was like new when I gave it back. I remember the final service showing the brake pads and clutch were not even 30% worn.

The problem with waiting for prices to come down is you inevitably end up looking at the cheapest cars on the market which are cheap for a reason. It's quite a new car and it has got a lot of miles on it. If you're going to add 15k miles a year for four years it's going to be 9 years old and 175,000 miles i.e. practically no value left in it. Plus you will have likely encountered some big bills. Unless it's tip top now you're going to be into brakes, suspension and exhaust for sure, plus clutch / flywheel, turbo, injectors possibly. If it's the right car I've found, the MOT history is very clean, but the next MOT is due in April, so pretty close.
It's always a risk at that mileage but that's the trade off between spec / model v mileage & age. Like someone mentioned earlier, putting another 15k PA into will soon make the car very undesirable to sell on in the future, especially with the anti diesel rhetoric that's currently hanging around.
My shout would also be on a newer Seat Leon, preferably petrol. Not as good for the image (to some), but a better prospect for family friendly, hassle free motoring.

For 3k more you can get a lightly used 2 year old Seat Leon FR 1.4 Act with some manufacturers warranty remaining.
And for another 3k more you can get a showroom new nissan micra 1.0 with full manufacturers warranty remaining and some change left overAlthough the Leon I'm on about will be based on the more up to date mbq platform. Also depending on your mileage the 1.4 Act engine is an ideal alternative to the older 2.0 tdi.
I think I will stick with my Petrol Scirocco for now, especially with the uncertainty around diesel at the moment. I do like the new Seat Leon in FR spec and I have also been looking at the Petrol F20 1 Series M Sport 116i and 118i, the 135i and 140i are a bit more than what I want to spend. I would love to be looking at S3's and 135i's but the Mrs is giving me enough stick for looking at 10k cars, never mind 20k cars. She thinks there is nothing wrong with car I have now and as we are getting married this year I will have to let her win for now
