Reading this thread put some dangerous thoughts in my head.. after the unfilled order of the The 991.2 GT3 that I had been promised by my OPC I started to look at these.

Stumbled on this thread and on the following article https://www.autocar.co.uk/car-news/anything-goes/p...

And started to look a bit closer. Market for good examples seems to be around 170k for RHD. LHD prices held up by FX not favourable at the moment. But you can probably find some good ones at 160k I would think.

I guess for me must would be : lift, nav, leather interior, carbon buckets. Colour I guess you ought to be flexible, funny you say blue not in demand as the blue/gold would have been my preferred choice. I sold my 991.1 GT3 in voodoo blue in less than 24hrs...

A question for the owners.. do you ever get used to the clutch pedal weight ?

weight of the clutch?
I can’t say that I’ve ever thought the clutch was heavy on the RS..

As for ownership, I was ‘fortunate’ that the 991 GT3 engines turned out to be made of chocolate, which then allowed me to get into a 3.8RS

Best motoring decision of my life...ever

Yes it’s fine - the gear change is initially a bit notchy until the fluids warm up and then it’s rifle bolt smooth and the clutch weight is noticeable but not uncomfortable - I found the GT4 heavier and the 981 Spyder similar.

Re prices I think your numbers are a little off I’m afraid - good cars are going at £k185/90 - I have no idea why the one at PS hasn’t gone as it looks really cheap - not saying there’s an issue with it but it does seem odd that.

They are brilliant cars - very viceral and engaging & I guess, special.

Also rare - not sure how many were made exactly, but not many - good luck on your search - fwiw I wouldn’t rule out cars without leather - most didn’t spec it as it was a time when these cars didn’t “suit” leather and they were thought to be more “real” without - mines not got it and it’s the only car that I have ever had without and for me it makes it’s more special and “fit for purpose” smile

Never thought about clutch weight. As others have said no different from any other GT product including GT4.
The 991.2GT3 clutch is very very light due to hydraulic assistance I believe.

From recent known transactions I believe the upper range of lower mileage, high spec cars is higher than your estimates.

They are special cars. I took mine to a rolling road yesterday where it posted close to 460 horses. Still fast and relevant. Hoping to try it out in Portimao next month.

If I was in the market for a car blue and white gold certainly wouldn't put me off!

I'd say about 150 cars judging by howmanyleft. What's also "interesting" (if you're a nerd) is that about 40% of 996 and 997 RS's are SORN'd and not because it's winter....all year round.

Q3 last year 220 Taxed and 160 SORN.....Q2 232 Taxed and 140 SORN.

Lots of investment cars it seems.

Thanks - that’s even less than I thought .

CLutch not heavy, even when parking/manouevering, and IMHO the way the shift 'warms up' as the gearbox oil gets up to temperature is one of those lovely human-machine interfaces, that make owning 'analogue' cars such an adventure. The shift feels a bit notchy when cold, but warms to be a beautifully positive, mechanical action. Very, very easy and enjoyable to use.

The 997 Gt3 is certainly a car you bond with in years of ownership. The interface is amazing. I really don't care about it not being the fastest or newest. It does feel you have to put more input and physically wrestle the car a bit more. But that's the appeal of such a car. Your driving it.

Everyone who has ever tried to drive my 997.1 GT3 mentions the clutch weight and how hard it is to push. I never notice it.

One thing you might not be aware of is how cold temps affect the gearchange. When the car is cold the gearshift can feel very reluctant and stiff but within a few miles as the oil heats up it gets smoother. After a while when all the temps are right the gearshift is super-smooth and precise, the best I have ever experienced..........and I used to own a Honda Integra Type R biggrin

shifs are far better in the new cars, GT4 shift was really good. the best Honda Shift was the S2000 imo.

Agree with all of this - I also love the way that the feel of the gearbox changes as the car warms up - makes you feel you are driving something very special - which, of course, you are smile

Morning R, hope you're well ? Someone will be along any moment now to say that the flappy paddle feel "improves" as the cabin warms through on their Gen 1 991 GT3/RS ... or that turning the aircon up to the max to reduce the cabin temp, makes the paddles feel far more analogue, old school and something very special indeed,

smile

Mk1 Escort.

"Sports Exhaust" = broomstick shoved violently into back box to knock baffles out.

Thanks. All very informative and encouraging.

As for the market I was just referring to a car in mint condition, excellent ownership history and top spec (the ones you mention above). That sold sub 180k recently. Not heard of, know of.

But was off market and privately. A little like when I sold my spéciale off market avoiding the extortionate bid-offer spreads and absurd SOR fees of some... good deal for both me and the buyer who was buying from an OCD obsessed petrolhead and not a black box dealer car.

Will continue with my search. For now the wife has absolutely vetoed red wheels. She also mentioned something about the absurd spoiler but I can only assume she will get used to it the same way she did with the gt3 wink
