997 911 turbo, 5 owners?
Discussion
Hi All
Looking to purchase a 911 turbo manual 2007 which I've seen and looking for some input.
The car doesn't have sports Chrono and has 5 previous owners, which is putting me off. Other spec includes Nav, Bose speakers, sunroof, silver with black leather. The car is otherwise in very good condition with mileage below 50k with full main dealer service history.
Should I steer clear, because of the number of owners and non chrono?
Thanks

No. owners probably not. A lot of high end kit like this gets flipped early in its life, or used as a short term itch scratch. I'd try and get info on when the changes were though - 4 in the last 6mths would make me wonder. 4 in the first 6mths and then 1 for 10yrs would be no issue. Etc.
No idea on chrono - didn't it add boost or something for the Turbo cars?

Completely agree re. owners, but sport chrono discussed here very recently - same car?

No of owners not a problem as already mentioned. I had my 997 turbo tip for only eight months
Sports Chrono is desirable but wouldn't say essential. IMO the main essential is a stick rather than a tip box; especially for Gen 1 997 turbos. The early tip (non PDK) boxes are a bit limp & tbh was one of the main factors I fell out of love with the 997 turbo & wished I bought one with a manual.

It was via auction and sold for £49k plus buyers fee which is approx. £1,500. Unfortunately I missed out, as I had expected it to sell closer to the guide of £45k. It was in very good condition with full Porsche history with 4 stamps and 45k miles, on a 2007 ‘57’ plate. I’m sure it will appear up for sale soon in the mid to late 50’s.
I forget how many former keepers my silver, manual 997.1 Turbo has but it's around five. It feels tight as a drum and has generally been trouble-free. If there are the requisite stamps in the book and it drives well then I wouldn't give it a thought. Nor would I worry about mileage - I'd expect the suspension to require a refresh after 50k miles and it will probably need a new clutch. Mine is up to almost 65k miles now (of which I've done 12k) and it honestly feels better now than it did when I bought it. I replaced most of the consumables in the suspension after I found a vibration over 130mph on the autobahn and the structure felt immediately better at all speeds.
Mine had 6 owners when I bought it and I’ve now had it 4 years. Didn’t bother me at the time and bothers me less now. It also had no Sport Chrono which to be fair seems to be rare on a 997.1 turbo!! I had the sport button retrofitted by my OPC which gave me all the functionality without the ugly clock on the dash. Still not sure what I’d swap it for now. I suppose if I keep it long enough 7 keepers will be fine.
