The stuff they use nowadays is probably different. But my old 996 Turbo had venture shield in various places (excluding the front bumper). After 8 years there was no discolouration, no noticeable nicks to it which weren't self inflicted. Seeing the bonnet next to the unprotected bumper was an advertisement in itself.

Will be seeking out a similar job for my GT3

I had my Ferrari 430 spider ceramic coated, and my 575 PPFd. Both were great jobs, I have just bought a 992 S cabrio and I have decided to go for Ceramic and not PPF. A really well done ceramic makes the paint punch out more than a PPF ever can. A really well done PPF protects better than a ceramic ever can.

That’s what it comes down to, and I have gone for the superficial option..

If I were planning lots of tracking or motorway miles I would for sure get the PPF. But for me PPF is just a bit restrictive, safe, sure, but you will never make the car look better than factory, which is what a great ceramic coat does. But it protects like ceramic never could. Horses for courses and no right or wrong.

I agree, no right or wrong answer that’s why I’ve gone for a mixture of both. I have ppf on main impact areas (front bonnet and rear wheel arches) and gtechniq ultra ceramic coating on the rest of the car (xpel ppf bits also have gtechniq halo ceramic coating)

If I can add another consideration into the mix:
Just finalising the spec on a new 718 GTS 4.0, and like a number of other readers am interested in options to extend the life of the paintwork/car. The dealership (OPC?) in W. London have suggested that they can carry out the PPF installation, not at the dealership itself but at Porsche GB in Reading, or so I understood. I know that this option of ‘Front Protection Foil’ is (now) offered on new 911s, and presume it’s a similar product for the 718.
Question for this group - if the fitting is undertaken by Porsche GB, and is a suitable film, is it useful to have the PPF warrantied by the GB distributor?
