Waitrose, Sainburys, car parks?! How the other half live.

Here's mine, parallel parked in the street, outside my mate's barber shop.

He's also pointing out how the RS is designed to be more oriented for track use and hence you lose some usability. Obvious really
But it's not really losing that usability. Forget what marketing/magazines who largely spout marketing would have you believe. i can't really believe anyone actually driving one would actually feel it's any less usable than a gt3 if one doesn't have a hang up about the height of the rear wing.

Have to agree.

Fortunately, I have mates who will happily remind me that, for the price of a new set of brake discs and pads, I should be buying something with brakes.

It doesn't hurt to be grounded.

That looks like the barbers where the infamous Oldham riots started a few years back.

The name has changed....It was called Ali Babas back then.

I kid you not.

I think you will find 01543 is Cannock, a little out unless the Oldham riots started in Cannock. laugh

I'm sure it's probably cheaper to get your hair cut in Oldham, but even I can afford to get mine cut in Cannock.

Its a small price to pay IMO if you have a fine head of hair as you do Digga,The money i save by not using Barbers allows me to finance a Spyder,,

rofl

I will take that as a compliment Taffy, although I should add I have been told (third and final warning) by Mrs Digga to get it cut.

Having been lucky enough to have had . driven a number of GT / Rs models over the past .... Think in my Opinion the RS aspect is the extra 5 % ..... and mainly the small items like CF bonnet and arches , Ti Exhaust , small aesthetic things as well such as stamped wheels ... so hard to define .
Yes wing is embarrassingly big for me but not bothered anymore as it keeps the wife out , although may take it off for the winter for RS Touring spec .
I have been surprised in the 3k miles so far as very civil car and nor too hard ( like my 64 RS ) , PDK is great , as I use car in Town and on track .... not a big one for tearing around the countryside at excessive speed .
So yes we all have different views , let alone talking about Brexit

Agreed. I had but a mere glimpse of what a 991.1 GT3 RS would do on track. It was sufficient to realise a.) it's far too fast for me and b.) it's definitely best enjoyed on the track.

this is an interesting one. I owned both simultaneously for 6 months a did some pretty extensive back to back testing consisting of 2 days at spa, 2 days at the 'ring and circa 1500 miles of early Sunday morning hooning across roads I know.

Which one you plump for depends on 1) how you are gong to use it, 2) how good a driver you are, 3) what else you have in your garage.

I ended up keeping the 991.2 GT3, and I honestly didn't expect that to be the outcome. I personally found the 991.1 RS a bit lacking - and bear with me on this! On circuit it is a fantastic car, but when compared to the 997 4.0 RS or 996 RS it's not as involving. It's a heavy car, which you really feel under breaking (put one on the scales with 1/2 tank of fuel and a driver and you'll be shocked), and there is a suspension failure issue at the rear which Porsche are keeping quite tight lipped about as they can't find a cure for it at present. It simply doesn't reward in the same way previous generation RS's have. That said I genuinely think the 991.1 RS is much more representative of what Porsches GT department is. The 991.2 GT3 is waaay to soft, I'm currently using it as my daily at which it excels, but its has definitely lost some of the magic that made GT cars great.

However, as a road car the 991.2 GT3 is streets ahead of the 991.1 RS. The damping is in a different league. And that engine matted to a fantastic manual gearbox is a a real joy.

The only areas I find the gen 2 GT3 too soft as a daily road car are firstly the clutch is too light and secondly the gearbox throw is slightly imprecise. Otherwise the car is all you could ever wish for especially with that sensational engine.

Bizarrly the GT4 clutch and gearbox are perfect but otherwise the car is flawed and in no way a substitute for a GT3 imo.

Gt4 / Spyder 6 speed is still the benchmark. First thing I noticed when I drove the GT3 was that it wasn’t as good. Clutch too light and shifts not as tight. Not bad but not as good for sure.

Nit picking but the GT4 / Spyder is perfect if a slightly heavy clutch.

I’ve found if you get some miles on the car then the gearbox improves imo. Nearing 5k miles now and the GT3 box is a joy to use, very precise and no 4th gear shunt. Yes the clutch is light, but I really don’t mind that and the box really encourages you to use it.

GT4 had a lovely gearbox as well and yes the clutch was heavier, but for me I like the combination of the GT3’s package and think it is well matched to the weight and performance. Steering is lighter than the GT4 as well from memory.

997.2 gearbox is just too notchy for me these days unless you can really spend hours in the car and warm the oil up properly. Also clutch is even heavier again. Probably a better shift for a connoisseur but for the lay guy the more modern 991.2 package works for me.

The 1.2 GT3 suspension is simply brilliant. Body control also over undulations is impressive and the car being fully locked down.

Poeple who find it too soft are either tracking their cars on smooth circuites like Paul Ricard or are blinded by faux sportiness of Audis and the like. On Nordschleife - which is a good proxy for a country road - a more compliant set-up makes you faster. Just look at the setups of the fastest race cars there
