996 GT3 - Gratuitous Joy Thread
Discussion
There's probably hundreds of threads on this subject already, but I bought a 996 GT3 from Paragon last August to cheer myself up after having had my posterior served to me on a plate by the ex-wife; her efforts having claimed the DB9 amongst other things as its casualties.
It's been in storage until today, not driven it once until this morning.
Dear God was it worth all the aggravation. I don't think I'm going to stop smirking for weeks!
Anyone else out there taking the chance with the fine weather to enjoy this raw, brutish, mechanical animal?

Lovely car - preferred the 996.1 for a long time, but recently have been thinking that the 996.2 has aged really well - would buy it for driving instead of looking at anyway, but still....
Still think the 996 (without Nav, easily replaced anyway) has the nicest black interior of the modern 911s .... i think i am quite literally the only person though

Thanks mate - if you're in the 993 I think you've just leapfrogged me!
I had a 997 C2 for about two months; it was a brand new car ordered through my old business, and was beautifully precise and tight, but didn't quite have the grunt. I chopped that in for the DB9, which was all torque and noise but rusted. Beautiful car, powerful, but too much hassle on basic issues.
Otherwise had a 986 Boxster (great fun, but wow that it so old now), and the 997 4s in the pic.
I have a business relationship with a Porsche dealer, which gives me access to certain rare motors that I am very fortunate to at least be driven in.
But that's my Porsche career. So no air-cooled ownership experience, a handful of the water cooled series, not really that experienced.
I remember driving the 996 GT3 in the early 2000s and not getting on with it. I was young and useless. Definitely a car for the calmer generation...

Hi mdl - mk1 vs mk2 is a big debate! I can only say that my impression today is that the mk2 revs for a long long way in each gear; I know the mezger did that full stop, but I was gobsmacked by how far I could take it in my car today. No idea how the mk1 would compare, but this was the defining experience for me - the power band was long, long, long
Morning all, thanks for the good wishes, really nice sentiment from everyone; rest assured I'll be holding on to her for longer than the ex-wife, and I don't think she'll cost me anywhere near as much!
To be fair to the ex I think she feels exactly the same way about me; although she's treated herself to a new Prius - is it any wonder it didn't work out...
Oh and yes, slippy, new undies were required yesterday when I got in

Brilliant cars and congrats. I adore mine and try to use it on track as much as possible.
Funnily enough my Dad used to own my car. I missed it so much when he sold it that i traded in mu 981 Spyder to get it back.
Its so different to the 997 mk2 GT3 he has now but a lot more delicate. I love it.
Mines comfort with carbon interior and leather buckets.
