I drove that one before buying mine.
I saw it around March (April?) when attending JZM’s Open Day, it was up for £68k then and I noted that it’d need new tyres due to age.

I love the colour and midnight blue is very rare on a 996.2

3. Brakes - if you lean on them there is a droning noise. I wonder if this is normal or the pad type.
...
Not sure if anyone responded to this but it seems to be normal and due to pad type. The 997.1 has pretty much the same brake setup as the 996.2 and mine did this on standard brakes. With Pagid RS29s and otherwise standard brakes it doesn't happen.

The previous owner to me noticed the noise on his test drive when he was buying the car - convinced the OPC to change the brakes and the noise was still there hehe and remained for the several years he owned the car. smile

That midnight blue car at JZM is very clean.

Have sat in it many times whilst waiting for bits on mine.

You wouldnt be able to handle a drivers car and thats stupidly cheap, sounds like a 'write-off' that was purchased back and corrected. Find out the reg number and type it into google and it might pop up.

I thought you was done with this place?

Here comes the troll! You must scan this place waiting to for you chance lol. Its 20K below the cheapest. BTW I'm not interested, a friend asked.

I'm doing well at ignoring some people........quite enjoyed my ban though.

True, youd have to ask the wife first if it was for you xmas

You already know the answer to the question at it being £20k cheaper than anything else. Ask your friend for the reg number and it might come up

That red 997 is a cat d and was owned and used by an experience company. Looks fab in the flesh, but has had a hard life. 4 clutches iirc. The dealer seems ok and sent me all the history. So I catalogued it in a spreadsheet as you do!!

Had a gearbox fault when I drove it. Make sure it’s been fixed.

For a car that is BOTH Cat D AND an ex-experience day, pay-and-play chariot, it's strong money anyway, right now.

Given any gearbox fault - quite possible given history - a buyer needs to bear in mind a budget of at least £3k in my (sadly well informed) experience. It is impossible for any expert to quote until the 'box is opened up. There's not too many who are actually capable of doing all of the work; Sports & Classic and Fearnsport are the names I'd think of first.

I'd probably double your £3k figure Diggs, It'll turn out to be a "whilst you're in there" scenario, and the gears, synchro hubs, shafts and bearings, seals etc are Porsche only (or Guard Transmissions) and thus eye-wateringly expensive.
If there's a fault, it stands a good chance it'll have been abused, and the bill will be lumpy to put things right.

Yes, I ought to have said a bare minimum of £3k, although I didn't want to invoke the "£20k engine rebuild" responses.

I guess it's most likely needing gears, synchros, selectors and bearings for at least the first three ratios. The labour just to open up, inspect and put the 'box back together is around £1k alone.

Who in their right mind would pay all that for a written off / damaged repaired car. It was originally written off for a reason not just because it had to have front and rear bumpers replaced!

Welcome to your new home.

Perfect handover. everything spot on. car immaculate etc.

Luckily it had dried up, so drive home was a short shifting job following my brother-in-law who took me down there.

Then I got over myself and went and did a few errands which meant a mixture of roads, small, big, windy, dual etc..

SMILE EAR TO EAR!

It was like inviting an old friend back into the fold or a comfortable pair of slippers. You instantly feel at home.

1st impressions: The ride was more compliant than I expected, which was nice. So, no worries doing the odd Reims trip. Nothing happens until 5,000rpm, then it goes very nicely. Under hard acceleration on normal bumpy roads, you have to keep it in line a little but very stable once there. Clutch, steering, gear shift heavier than normal cars but tactile and effective. Love the more mechanical sound with less soundproofing.

Only slight negative is I was expecting it to be lounder, sure a previous normal 996 with PSE was louder, so might have to have a play with that!

LOVE IT smile ..

Got in the R8 to move it when I got back and the clutch felt like a feather!

Congratulations! A great Christmas present.

I know most think the 996 are the ugly ducklings but I think the Mk2 GT3 look very purposeful in a variety of colours.

A mighty fine car.
