That's belt and braces.

Personally I usually pump the back tyres up, check the oil drive home and put it in the shed, and repeat, but then I probably don't drive as hard as you do.

Be interested in what sort of issues you've seen with your preventative maintenance.
I know what you mean.
But as I quite often get asked to take a lot of Px out for Charities etc. I like to think everything is as it should be. Also post Aug 13 these new ceramic coated CCBDs whist last a very long time. The only way to check the wear rate is with a special density devise that OPCs have.

The main problem's that I have come across are that the Geo moves out after every track day, based on my experience. On the GT cars with RWS it only needs to be a bit and this means that the car is not at its optimum. Also when the Geo is re-set like on the GT2 this will require the steering angle sensor to be re-calibrated, again OPCs have the service tool to do this. Also I have had nails in tyres reported, stone chip discs, pad wear rate also, lose ABS connector on rear loom. Oh, also like to see have tyres inspected to see how they are wearing in respect of what Geo set up. Just think its good practice, along with opportunity for oil and brake fluid changes that I like to do regularly if I am tracking a lot.

One company has historically steadfastly refused to divulge information, but I was surprised to see a comment on the Manthey suspension thread which suggested JZM/Manthey had requested their geo settings were not publicised.
The information will of course make it into the public domain at some point, just as the Kussmaul settings did for the 996 GT3 many years ago.
If it's the same company I'm thinking of, have to admit despite the recommendations of them here, in retrospect I do regret going with them for the alignment I had done some years ago. Had I seen the numbers (which I later found out when trying to figure out how my front tyres got eaten through so quickly on track) I'd instantly have asked for some changes especially given what I had been charged for essentially a redoing of the OEM 7rs numbers. Not that I claim to be a setup god but there's a few sensible basics of what the cars are going to need and even someone clueless like me would be able to tell i didn't have enough camber for any kind of track use....

Polishing vs driving could be a good subject for another thread.

I like both and wish I had more time for both!

After a long weekend away or just an epic drive it's really great to spend all day cleaning and polishing the car. Strengthens the bond between car and driver even more.
Wish I had someone like you as a neighbor - really dislike cleaning/ polishing. You feel like a holiday in NZ? smile

There used to be a whole heap of people and knowledge around these parts, the 911uk forum doesn't seem too populated. Is there any other forums that should be a must visit?

Rennlist I used to be a member of, but I don't recall my log in and I did feel it was very USA-centric.

We don't see the same old faces on track these days (or fewer anyway), has the investor market decimated the enthusiast one?
Hi Craig, we are all still bombing about Scotland (and further afield) on our runs same as always (well since 2010), you're more than welcome to come back any time, would be great to see you! Some of the guys started a Scottish site called Tartan Tarmac, but it's basically the old Pistonheads crew.

Hardly any of us post on Pistonheads very often now though for the unpleasant reasons detailed above, just lurk to see if any old names pop up like yersel ;-)

Johnny C
Johnny! I still have a photo somewhere of our (993) arses together, are you still running that old thing?! What a car that was. I will take a look over the website-best sign up before I need my passport to wink

Is OlberJ still on the scene? I lost track of what he was up to after the last MR2 V6 build he bought.

This is a good point. Stuff like that is nigh on impossible to check thoroughly, without the car being up on a ramp.

ETA apropos of which, my car flew through its MOT on Saturday, but the 61 plate Cayenne next up didn't; both rear springs cracked. My mate who runs the village garage is (reluctantly and unintendedly hehe) becoming a bit of a Porsche specialist. Also had a 996 in...

Nothing wrong with owning a porsche and doing what the hell you like with it,be it concours or raceing.Just don't understand the spoilt bratt replies that some come back withsmile
No garage queens for me though.

Next project, just rebuilding a 2.0 ltr screamer engine for this one,230bhp and 700 kg to besmile
I bet you were hiding in the pit garage in case anyone got to near to it - I remember poor Graham with the GT2 door on the tunnel ;-0 i remember it well,he is not much differant now!
The yellow 491 gets a lot of use, still gives me goose bumps, which i guess is what its all about.

Happy days mate, they were indeed for driving, shopping, tracking whatever, I've even cut grass with the GT at Goodwood.
They make the best mowers, dont mess around with a john deer;)
Happy days indeed,i miss them some times.I remember the 3 of us in the 3 cgt at the tunnel with the police and our passport removals and my M1 Cgt reg plate which i just put on for the trip as i had not transfered it at the time from the wifes golfsmile

The only 2 Big Offs that I have seen at Silverstone, could have been avoided with a short Ramp inspection, of brakes tyres etc. On my last 2RS post track day inspection a nail was found right on the inner edge of the LH front tyre. The face of it was below the tread block and It has gone right through well over an inch into the tyre. I don't think I would have picked this up.

That will be awesome P, need to speak to you re hill climbing....the lure is strong.
Hopefully it will be a good car and safer to race than the 906 was, really looking forward to getting it complete to use, porsche dont make lightweights anymore,so had to get my own again! Which would probably fit inside a 991smile
Come out hillclimbing,we have the dates for next season almost finished, just finished our last event of the season, tricky conditions, wet, drying slippery ,wet. You would love it,we have another chap out with us in the 991rs 2,he does well in it,even better would be to see the st or rs out with us.

So I was the poster on the Manthey thread - of the two shops i have been to, both, supplied me with print-outs of before and after - so supplying evidence to the customer is fine. There was a conversation about how i used the car and i what wanted it to be like as do use the car on the road as well as on track... I personally would love to talk about all the detail - i did make a lengthy post breaking down the kit and how it was supposed to work... as been mentioned, the actual numbers i have ended up with aren't really that unique - i've seen similar on other forums were people have played about and gotten to a similar place.
But at the end of the day it a business - its like the Colonels secret recipe for KFC, but of course anyone can make their own, so as it was inferred that it would be nice if i didn't just directly post the sheet/numbers.

Great memories. You really got that GT3 in the sweet spot with the hardware and set up and drove it brilliantly. Good to see you posting Old Chap.

Good Point, just after a single track day the settings can move around massively.

This is what I started with on one track day on my GT3.2 PDK

And this is what I ended up with after the event.
What track were you on,did you/they not take tyre wear into consideration for camber change on your geo,its strange how the right side had all the camber change, unless its been understeering like a pigsmile,or did you put new tyres on before checking the geo and same pressure gauge used by same operator! just interested to know what rear steer, vector what ever is doing to tyre wear.

Took my car down to Goodwood yesterday...was invited by a sponsor to a charity event. My car didn't make it past the car park but there were a couple of nice Porsche's there.

This 356 Speedster which is totally original

and this 356 which the bodywork is as it was found after being left in the desert for 25 years

I had a passenger ride in the Speedster and a couple of other cars including this rather special machine

The "Best of Turin" was there and quite a few other special cars....the big Fiat is something that really needs to be experienced first hand...video really doesn't do it justice. I was in the paddock sat in the Speedster chatting to the driver when it pulled up next to us...being sat six feet away from that when it's spewing flames and smoke is quite an experience!

I finally moved it on and bought a 981 Cayman GTS, name is down for a GT4 but not sure if i'll get one (probably not will be wayyy down the list)

Yes mate Olly is still on the scene, we all are, same crowd doing same old car stuff, just a bit older and not on here very often.

Loved the old 993s, but expensive to keep tip top now while still ragging them daily, had to finally move the game on. Glad to see you're still on the scene, hopefully catch up in person some time

Yes "The Beast"...youtube doesn't get close to the feel of it to be honest. I had the pleasure of helping to bump start it on one run...pushing that down the pit lane isnt easy...and when he starts letting the clutch out the intertia of the engine is just ridiculous!
