If you are on 46k I think I'll refrain from any further "banter" as clearly we have a Walter on our hands. Mitty or White though!?? wink

I'm not keen on going into much detail but I would agree to an extent you can run a bit of a fleet with lower earnings than you may think. We have 20% of the value of our fleet on finance and the rest is all owned outright (not all of them are on mygarage) In theory I could sell up and buy a GT3 and a Cayman R and probably have change for a VX220 and not owe anything for them. I've just chosen cars carefully for the last decade really never really lost anything on cars even daily drivers until the last couple of purchases (Evora and wifes Disco both of which are on finance) add that to a pretty working class lifestyle I've just ended up with spare money which I "invest" in cars. Eventually you arrive at a point where you have more built up in cars than you earn in a year but it's just man savings to me.

I've just made an edit to my post. I would agree there is more than one way to skin a cat as far as cars go.

I don’t believe you- your stated income wouldn’t pay for the servicing on the cars you claim to own, let alone fuel, insurance, VED and so forth.
I know people on low tax rate income with a huge amount of cash in the bank, and i also know of others on the highest 45% tax rate income and are totally skint..Its all about knowing the difference between spending money wisely and wasting money on worthless trinkets and living beyond their means on a daily basis.
People who waste money are generally ignorant to the fact and continue to do so throughout their lifetimes..I know people who have been given a £2M family payout in cash and in a couple of years they can no longer pay their bills.
I'm willing to bet that Mr D falls in the camp who only spends his money wisely and wastes very little on a daily basis..From 16 to 50 is 34 years or 12410 days to waste money in.

Totally agree.

Some people want it all. There is so much out there to be had as well and some choose to want all of it. Plus plush holidays every year. It’s just to easy to spunk loads of cash..

Well there you have it, have a cheap mobile telephone and don't subscribe to Sky and you can run a fleet of cars worth 8 times your salary.

Sounds legit.

Don't forget to dump the daily Caviar and Dom Perignon breakfast, Fortrum & Mason's Christmas hampers, Saville Row suits every month, Monte Carlo casinos and drop that nasty drug habit wink

Gents,

It is really getting a bit ugly and crass, talking about each other's incomes or financial choices. (Especially judging by the age demographic explained here, 40-50s?)..

Without taking any sides, just a kind reminder. rolleyes

Happy motoring.

It's a Porsche forum you can't expect us to actually talk about the cars.

TBF, I actually thought it was an interesting debate. I don't think anyone was really erring toward the "considerably richer than yow" sort of discussion.
