Porsche 911 Investment Toy
Discussion
Can't help with above car but if you're looking at C4S I'd have a close look at this one. Looks a nice car even if history patchy. I'm not even the market for a 996 but sorely tempted to lay this on as its super rare spec.

Buy on condition. A 996 is a fair bet, I would get a carrera 2 as that maybe seen in years to come as the more desirable, but 5 years is too short a time for an 'investment'
I bought a fpsh 20k mile 3.2 carrera for 10k and its worth easy 60k now and has cost very little in comparison but that was right at the bottom of the market 11 years ago.

As the current owner of a 19 and 16 year old 996,l my advice:-
Road salt over many years is VERY destructive. Make it a condition of purchase that the car can be taken to a place where it can be put on a lift and everything inspected close up from the bottom up with the covers off! Despite comments about durability, these cars rust in places you cant see from the road. They are certainly less well protected than the average Volvo
If every condenser and radiator has not been changed, then it will need to be. The front, rear lower arms and top mounts are usually shagged by 50K or will need changing in your ownership. Similarly the brake disks/pads.
If you buy one in good condition and keep it that way you will suffer comparatively less depreciation than you will on a car from a different manufacturer.
The big Elephant in the room will always be the engine durability. Mostly good, some disastrous. The fact that Porsche redesigned it and there are several companies making a living out of rebuilding them is evidence enough to prove some weaknesses.
Good luck. (and luck does play a part to be fair!)

Something like this one maybe if its original panel no accident car with good history? I bought a fpsh 20k mile 3.2 carrera for 10k and its worth easy 60k now and has cost very little in comparison but that was right at the bottom of the market 11 years ago.

good shout, X51 in speed yellow loving that https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/302992508896
Thank you everyone for your help again as before!
Firstly, IMI A, many thanks and I have seen this one but don't think I would get away with the yellow!!
Gary C, I definitely want a C4s and not a C2, however I appreciate your comments regarding investment, my plans had changed on this anyway so it is more of a long term thing anyway now.
At the moment, still hoping that somebody on here has some knowledge on the one I am looking to view over the weekend if I am lucky enough!

You do need to decide why you have it. Problem with 'investment' car is you become afraid to drive them. Mine has done about 8k in 10 years never goes out in rain and it's a worry to park in some places. No e was just meant to be a driving car then the prices shot up 6 to 7 times what I paid and it's now a dilemma.Firstly, IMI A, many thanks and I have seen this one but don't think I would get away with the yellow!!

Need to drive it some next year.

Looks like engine went pop and was replaced by an X51 7 years into its life - would be tempted still though and yellow is coolhttps://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/302992508896
what is all this bks about sunroof delete? "Ultra rare sunroof delete with black suede headlining"
It was a £850 cost option so quite a few cars didn't have them - must as well write "ultra rare turbo intercooler delete"

my brother has a lovely black 996 c4s . 52 plate. black leather , manual pse. 18000 miles from new , 1 previous owner.
is a bit dated to drive v a new Porsche , but it has charm for sure.
get a c4s imo.
I love the balance of a simple rwd 911, you really have to drive it and learn how to transfer weight onto the nose. As a pure driving experience, a manual rwd will probably be seen as the better 'drivers' car in the future (without going as far as a GT#) car.is a bit dated to drive v a new Porsche , but it has charm for sure.

ThisIf you've not spent any time in one you won't understand this. They understeer a bit until you learn to lift the throttle. Almost like a fwd car which sounds back to front I'll admit. I know the c4s looks good but as an investment surely 2wd wins eventually.
Good morning everybody. I must say thank you to all who gave me advice and help last year, I can now proudly say I am owner to a 996 Carrera 4s which I am enjoying more every day. I have had a few things done since I got it and plan to do a few more but here are some pictures for all to see.

Hi Adam,
Yes it is Meridian Silver which I love, it has several different tints in it so very unusual. I didn't put any filters on the picture! All I have had done is the bumper resprayed and the plastic vent and air duct replaced as they were broken. I have had the leather interior cleaned and refreshed.
Next on the list is getting the alloys refurbished and possibly the calipers repainting!

No interior pictures at the moment, but I can add some at some point.
Regarding Meridian Silver, I have to agree to a certain extent, in fact I disliked any silver really and my first choice was Seal Grey. However seeing this in the flesh totally changed my mind, it has several tints which the pictures do not really do it justice.
I am overall very happy with it.

Great job Harv. You held out and got the right car by the looks of it. Lets have some detail if you dont mind? Manual or tip, mileage, standard or sports exhaust, and what level of servicing has the car had. Any major engine work?
Good luck with the car. You will have a blast with it!
Rick
