997.1 GT3 - 911 Virgin
Discussion
Perhaps just bite the bullet and go buy one? 911V car sold?
You'll be chewing the cud forever otherwise.
996 GT3 and 997.1 GT3 pretty good value at the moment IMO if you compare to air cooled and later GT3 and no less engaging to drive but still on or around list price 12 years on hard to swallow from my perspective. Just make sure you buy one that needs nothing doing as these can be expensive to run if you say need a gearbox/LSD / over haul or suspension refresh / RMS leak etc and these cars are 10-12 years plus old now. I think that was the beauty of the 911V car this thread started about which very few understand.

I've just bought one! Well I did the deal a couple of weeks ago but it got delivered today.
It was the red one at TH Boler, got an inspection done and came back pretty much all clear. The buckets are sexy af and I've always loved Guards Red. I wasn't really fussed about comfort or CS as long as it had buckets.
Inital impressions... well it looks really nice, won't have a chance to drive it until next week unfortunately!

Pinch of salt required but on other side of coin fair bit of muppetry and or lack of understanding between an original panel no accident car with nothing needing doing and a potential money pits. Some of the repeated questions on here like dealing with rain man. Many people do not seem to understand that track cars get used on track as intended and the difference in accelerated wear on items often through many drivers not being the best peddlers.

Tbf, it's not like there's no effort to do so. Offered more for the car above than it actually ended up selling for?
cheers... and have spent several quids getting ppis done and viewing cars in scotland (im SE based) but dont regret it. its part of the fun and i dont need to rush so why would i?ill end up with a car that is just right for me and am happy to play a long game and get something is as close to ideal for me as possible with compromises i am happy to make

RC1, who are you using for your PPIs please
Pistonheads I went and got a trade bid yesterday on an a very similar car to the car this thread started on. So black, comfort, 45k miles, original panel FSH.
Answer on a post card what the trade bid was? You'll be shocked and it was from a very decent Indy who specialise in GT cars.

You're all not a million miles away. £45k-£50k depending on condition. I was very surprised I must be completely out of touch. They would not go north of £50k in current mkt. Seems mad low no?
Doesn’t shock me, remember some of the cars listed for sale at around 70 to 80 have been up for over a year and then you have the private chancers trying to sell for similar money. If it’s a good car, sensible amount of owners, clear Rev range report which will fly through a private inspection and not requiring any work you should stand a fair chance of selling it on the private market for 55k imo.

And you thought my guesstimate of £45k was low for a trade bid on a 997.2 C2S. Do you still want to buy “every one that’s availble” for £50k ?IMI A said:

£45k? I’d give £50k tomorrow and buy every car available with that spec, mileage at £50k.
This also at maybe say £35k is even better VFM. Surely worth a cheeky bid?!

You might do but I don’t think an OPC pays £50k for a 997 C2S regardles of spec. This also at maybe say £35k is even better VFM. Surely worth a cheeky bid?!

Better not deal cars!!!! I know 911V were only taking a few grand out of that car as it was on SOR.
It seems with some dealers newer into the market they’re looking to bag £20k on a car but when you take VAT on profit and any warranty claims on an old car that profit can disappear pretty quickly. You’re essentially paying a finders fee for buying a sound car with no stories.

I had a conversation about selling a car into a main dealer some time ago. When discussing the offer, this is the info the buyer sent to me after offering £45k:
"Car would be retailed at £65k. We pay VAT on the margin and put a warranty on the car. Approved used car standards are high, so the car wouldn't be cheap to prepare and bring up to standard.
A starting margin of circa £20k. If we are lucky there's a net margin of circa £5k with all costs taken into account".
How much of that is accurate I don't know, I didn't sell them the car. The car was mint - it had just been through their workshop which is why they offered to buy it.....
