1999 996 C4 Tip. 96k.

I'm dropping the engine on my Porsche this weekend to change the Air Oil Separator and whilst it is out its a good time to get everything inspected and carry out some preventative works.

Any advice on bits to change, clean, inspect. Pipework, clips, pumps??

Also, IMS. If no sign of wear or oil weep i've been advised to leave it alone, do you agree?

It's had a recent gearbox service, coils etc so standard serviceable items done.

Any help or advice appreciated and any part numbers would be helpful.

Thanks

I recently had the engine out of my 03 c4S due to heavily corroded brake pipes, please check your pipes and have them replaced while engine out.I also had the chassis rail brake pipes replaced at the same time.
The garage also separated the gearbox to turn over the ims bearing by hand and stronlgy advise i replaced the bearing with an aftermarket (LM Bearing) i think.
Also the water expansion coolant bottle is a 5 min job when the engine is out but 2 hours labour with engine in.
I used an independent porsche spec in Horley and I have been very happy with their service.

Good luck with your project

Thanks.

Engine dropped out very nicely Saturday and now getting a bit carried away with changing bits and thinking about powder coating.

Will change the brake lines as well as most pipes, some pulleys, water pump, drive belt, engine mounts etc, probably doesn't need it but as we've gone this far!

Not too sure about the IMS bearing though. Sometimes it can do more harm then good fiddling with something that doesn't need it. Anyone thoughts on this?
