What’s the deal with 991.1 turbo and turbo S engines, do they have issues similar to the 991.1 GT3

The Carrera and Turbo DFI engines have none of these issues. They do not rev high enough to have needed lightweight valve train design remedies such as MIM finger followers. Their hydrallic lash adjusters work just fine at the duty cycles demanded of them.

Dundon Motorsports in the USA have engineererd a solution for the 3.8L MA1(75) engine in the 991.1 GT3, however its far from cost effective whilst PAG are prepared to pick up the tab for the engine replacements. That of course may well change with time as these cars fall outside of the waranty programe (which could be 15 years in some cases). We will all be old men by then driving elecric mobility scooters LOL!

Its funny you mention your 997.1 GT3 with IMS. We have had a few examples of that down under. There was also a coolant pipe issue which is starting to affect many of the M96/97 engines. Ive seen at least 3 x 996 & 997 evacuate their water on track days in teh last few years. The plastic pipes need pinning and to get to them all you need to drop teh engine which can be quite expensive.

The GT4 gearbox issue was a big one down here. I luckily avoided the issue as my car was a Nov 2016 build and the problem didnt occur until cars build a little after that date. I have a friend which has been through two. The first one they gave him was identical to the first! At that stage Getrag were not able to provide replacement gearboxes under their contract with porsche within the timeframes needed for warranty repleacement with the substandard component replaced. Aparently they had changed the supplier of a seclector or something mid way through production for Porsche and that part caused a failure between 2 & 3rd gear, accelerated by track use. Many have been done over hear and USA and Im sure in UK too.

The pace of developement has been massively accelerated in the last 10 years driven by intense manufactirer competition and rampant changes to emmsssions regulations. Much product is now BETA tested on the customer!

IIRC, in the TVRCC section of the Houx annexe campsite at Le Mans 2002, ours were some of the very few cars sporting the "PistonHeads" stickers at that time. Happy days.
Oh we've gone well off topic now, but you'll like this blurry screen grab from the Duke Video 2002 Le Mans review. That's my old Griff (P500MAD) in the foreground parked right next to yours.
