Porsche GT track day
Discussion
Good meeting you guys earlier in the week. Thanks for the passenger rides to Cunno and Chris. Both your motors are little monsters, those upgrades have been worth the many pennies spent
First time at the circuit and would like to go back again if there’s another noisy day (that whole thing is a bit of a joke given the airport next door but there you go)
I’m up for more noisy trackdays down south like Harris, but I think the only option is really Silverstone as they seem the most relaxed about noise compared to the other tracks
Roro (Black 997, gold wheels)

I don’t think you need a noisy day at Donington for Porsches. We had two historic race cars there both with straight pipes, about 100dB each at idle on a standard 98dB day, no bother...
Just depends on who / how the noise testers approach things. Donington is usually 105 static I thought, so a car idling at 100 would be a lot louder than 105 on a static test at 3/4 revs? Need to weigh up whether it’s worth the risk of trackday fee + hotels + fuel etc and then not be able to play because of failing the advertised noise test on the day. Given its next door to an airport you would think they’d be a little lenient, but my experience of that track is based on just this one trackday...rrroro said:

Donny on a normal day is 98db drive by and a GT3 even with a new exhaust is boarder line. I’ve been tracking my 997.1 GT3 for years at Donny and found it really did matter which way the wind was blowing some days no issues others black flagged within 2 laps. Just do noisy days now not worth the riskNever had an issue on the 98dB drive by - couple of times on track in my 6GT3 and probably 5-6 times in my ‘87 car with a loud Turbo Thomas exhaust. I’ve never had a static test done at Donny.
Static 911s struggle because you add the air box and engine mechanical noise to the exhaust as the mic is done at the exhaust, drive by much easier. Most testers let you get away with lower revs especially if it’s a nice looking classic car ;-)

Old Skool PCGB Day
Good to finally meet you briefly today would have wandered by again for a longer chat but I simply couldn't resist taking advantage of TDT's kindness (awfully kind of you T! ) to let me sneak on in his place for the last hour to waste some fuel and tyres.....isaldiri said:

So annoyed I didn't think of coming up earlier. I have to drive to Peterborough anyway to pick up a car tomorrow :-/ - could have gone up a day earlier and broken the journey there....plus we could have explored the new tarmac
So from the other guys there today, what is the new tarmac like? ...and is it record lapping conditions?

And the last hour was the best , finally few cars , got some nice consistent runs ( old man style.) .... the Cup2's are a step forward , yes rude not to take advantage of free track time ...Should have come for a ride Edited by hunter 66 on Tuesday 30th July 09:51

New tarmac is billard table smooth. Ready for personal bests. - could have gone up a day earlier and broken the journey there....plus we could have explored the new tarmac

Was gutted not to be driving. But car is ready now… going to test drive and hopefully collect tomorrow before Donington on Thursday.

Ah good to hear that, hope the weather then holds up. Anyway next time as I mentioned - lasource is your go to contact if you ever need out of a dry trackday at short notice Was gutted not to be driving. Interesting was having a ride in the Pista ........ in RACE mode was brutal the gear changes bordered on the ridiculous and the chassis became so stiff . Can feel the 700 bhp though . We ran together at same pace on the same tyres , both do a bit of club racing for years , nothing in it the Fez faster in the straights and better turn in , the Pork faster exit speed and drive out . Would I buy it over the RS , I love the look and the finish detail is immaculate but no , I prefer to feel of the RS .
Oddly got more in tune with the brakes , maybe better tarmac , was lifting and onto brakes after the turn in board on the Hanger with the car literally squirming under braking . Yes only issue after 5-6 laps due to the warm weather the left rear starts to go off a bit .

The other paul found some footage of us out in our two of the 22 993rsr at portomaio a couple of years back, great sound on open pipes and no traffic, hopefully some will like it.There was obviously a fan of 993rsr at the circuit filming,Fairly sure hunter was with us
