How do you guys get away with the dB readings at Oulton? I was testing some JCR and standard exhausts at Silverstone on Monday and the lowest drive by reading was JCR Silanced Race Pipe and Silenced tips at 94.9dB. Standard was 96.9dB

JW
My 991.2GT3 with a JCR unsilenced rear muffler delete and JCR's Ti tips passed at the Oulton RS day last March..Didn't see the readings however i had no problems.

I suspect on MSV run days they might be a bit more lenient.

I think you are right. Oulton is notorious for noise police, it's the main reason the circuit can't be used for racing on a Sunday.

Chaps,

When’s the appropriate time to fit new Cup2s? The rears are now 2.5 - 3mm

Don’t want to be wasteful but equally don’t want to leave myself short on track.

One more track day ok I guess? Maybe two at a push?

Cheers

I'd say 1. Its not just tread depth but heat cycles you need to coinsider. How many tarck days have you done on them, and how many sessions & laps per session do you tend to do?

Cup 2s are well past their best long before the tread has worn down. Purely unscientifically I would estimate around 2 track days in their freshest state, then a couple more before the grip goes very south.

The tread is pretty resilient which I suppose is good news if you use them as road tyres in the wet. But it can delay the incentive to replace them sooner.

Thanks chaps.

They were fitted in February, since then did about 4800 miles with 5 track days. Been really unlucky with the weather though, I estimate only about 8 hours of dry track in those five TDs. Typically 15-20 mins per session so nothing unusual.

I'd change them now. I wouldn't wait, they will be well past their best.

Buy a Durometer and ask the manufacture for advice.

There is no easy answer as temps and time on track is too big to ever give advice, also geo plays a big part and do correct bleed downs on a track day.

Some people get 8 heat cycles some get 30.

Best thing to do is monitor the inner edge on the rears and the shoulders on the fronts, and buy a durometer to monitor heat cycles hardness.

In case it's of interest, the PCGB 2020 track day calendar is now up and taking bookings. I've gone for Anglesey, Silverstone & Castle Combe so far.

Good call. I am going to look at a few of these myself. Hoping I can make the Anglesey date, as I've not driven the circuit sinc it was extensively revamped.

Yes, I was looking at Anglesey too. Maybe I will do a couple next year. Trouble is I haven't done a track day for many years and have a bit of a mental block risking my car. Is Anglesey a good place to start or maybe Castle Combe better as I at least remember it quite well?

PCGB track day are very tame and Anglesey as a circuit is quite forgiving so not a bad place to restart

Good if you can make Anglesea..A chance to get the old Rhug gang back together in a more suitable venue for driving.
And don't worry as i had exactly the same mental block on my GT3 and i suspect it'll be even worse in my RS...The though of binning a car with an insurance value of £240K scares the bejesus out of me..!

Haha , only this year did I bother to insure any car on track ..., keeps you honest . Once raced a 700k matching numbers 993 RSR on slicks in heavy rain ...... as I said keeps you concentrating

I can't speak for Anglesey as never been there, but Castle Combe is one of 2 circuits I've had a big off while testing. I put one wheel of my Caterham on the grass and then proceeded to the scene of the accident. It hurt (physically and financially).

So probably not the most friendly track, but then I suppose there is an element of danger at all circuits.

Anglesey is a great circuit ... it's a bit of a nuisance that there is no fuel on site, but it's great value on the PCGB calendar.

I have booked .. the only one so far next year after the RS Oulton day ... is it my imagination or are the PCGB days now rather expensive ?

To be fair Chris all TD organisers seem to have upped their prices again
