Just watched the video. HM has surpassed even himself this time. His enthusiasm for the CGT as being one of his all time favourite cars is clear for all to see. What I don't get is why he doesn't already have one in his stable.
Simply because he's a full time hands on farmer..No way a farmer's income in the current economic climate will allow purchase of a CGT..If it was any different i'd buy a CGT in a heart beat..

Quite possibly the best video from Harry M, and I’ve watched them all.

Metcalfe had the means to buy and perhaps more importantly run a Zonda years ago (and never failed to big it up in evo either while he had it)... Farmer or not it seems unlikely affordability of a cgt is the only thing stopping him getting one.

If I could nitpick at the video, the cgt has a carbon ceramic clutch - not a true race car type carbon clutch (as per say a Mclaren F1 or jaguar xjr 15) as he mentions somewhere around the middle of the video. I have to admit I don't get how he weighed that car at 1386kg either unless it was basically on an empty tank having personally seen 3 cars weighed at >1460kg fully fuelled. Nitpicking apart though, nice video I agree (with lots of exterior sound used I cannot help but note wink ) and he does pinpoint the precision of the car as being very much one of the outstanding features. And the engine isn't too bad either I suppose even if it's lacking in hp/litre and lower rpm limit than the best car engine ever (according to some).

Harry on form as always. The CGT is in the top 3 greatest cars of all time for me with only MacF1 and Zonda competing; mind you the new Valkyrie is looking rather tasty and may just have something to say about the pecking order.
I've considered buying a CGT on numerous occasions especially so when they were languishing in 220k region. Many current owners here on PH were lucky enough to buy in at this point. Today at 600k or so, you could have a CGT or the following:

-600LT 160k
-Performante 190k
-Noble M600 190k
-GT3 60k

...or any similar list of your choosing.

Factor in the running costs of a CGT and how precious you would inevitable have to be with it and I'm not sure many could gain from the complete ownership experience. Massive hats off to the guys throwing them around the alps and similar wink
If you guys were being honest though and had to sell the odd asset and all your toys just for this one, would you really do it? This is a different question to those fortunate few seriously rich with a fleet of such exotica, I'm talking to those with the means to buy but would have to make some serious sacrifices.

Stefan1 when you have the new suspension fitted at Manthey in March, would you mind me having a closer look at your car. Getting up close and personnel might just flip me over the edge; well it certainly would the Mrs if she found out my intentions hehe

IF I ever bought one it would certainly not be going on track....above my pay grade.

My perfect garage contains three cars....something old and air cooled, something contemporary and something extraordinary. Contemporary I have with my 991.2 GT3. I really wouldn’t want to own three or four modern super cars.....too much guaranteed depreciation and too many similar cars!

Carrera GT is possible but it’s obviously a huge amount of money. As I said in an earlier post I think prices are coming off (not just UK but globally) so will wait and see. There are a few cars that have been on the market for a while...Tom Hartley Jr has a 1 owner UK supplied car with under 3k miles which he’s asking £875k for....that looks like it’s overpriced by at least £150k. Snr has a car with less than 1k miles for £750k....both have been for sale for months. The good thing is that because they made so many they come up to auction quite frequently so price discovery is relatively easy.

I agree there are a lot of them made, but knowing what a couple of purportedly great cars at specialists turned out to be like after inspection, means finding a good one is not a walk in the park. The vast majority don't get serviced annually and do not have the four year engine out service (it's not required now to do the valve clearance check as there is a work around) but personally prefer to have this done anyway. Mine is in for it's fourth engine out service at 16 years this month.

If I was looking for one the first port of call would be Andy Keywood and John Manning at Reading.

Suspension plus integrated lift kit is the plan: currently in build with KW for fitment in March I hope.

When I drove the very kind friend's car, I'd say the primary difference was that when you enter a corner, the suspension settles faster than in the standard car, in which there is just a small delay, where you have to wait for it for a fraction of a second to "take a set". It's a subtle but worthwhile difference.
Ok. Well please keep us in the loop as to how the install goes, and specifically where they choose to plumb in the pump which activates the damper lifters, and the switch for actuation too (is it a remote or plumbed in?).
Also very interested to hear how they'll set up to those dampers and the geo they'll give the car after too....

I have "personal" reasons for investigating your install..... wink

The RUF lift install may not be relevant as it uses existing suspension but for what its worth, the red circle is where the pump goes. Andy Keywood told me he thought the RUF system was the best after market install at the time.

I've got to say that I agree with this assessment of the CGT market. The cars on the market are spectacularly overpriced and are not moving. I think instead, the cars are being sold off-market rather lower than the absurd prices being advertised.

Dealers are in fantasy land. I think they are trying to force it to the price of the F40 and that's not going to happen yet for three reasons. Firstly, it doesn't have a Ferrari badge, secondly, outside the cognoscenti, it hasn't achieved that level of respect yet (even though it's one of the great drivers car of all time) and most importantly the general market for all cars of this type is getting hit and is heading south.

IMO the supercar investment frenzy is on the way out.

It's also worth pointing out that a full service history is worth £50k - £60k IMO. My reasoning is, for that amount of money, Porsche Reading (or better still, Stuttgart) can largely recommission a CGT (get it ready for use) which has had bugger-all servicing before; clutch, dampers, brakes, engine out service, tyres, etc etc. Of course, if the motor is blown and/or it needs a whole new gearbox, then that goes out of the window, but no-one would buy something like this without inspection.

Just wow!

Watched HM earlier too; agree it's an excellent review of the CGT. Next up after was him taking his Testarossa down to Antibes in near freezing temps. hehe

That Testarossa trip was amazing. An outboard motor in the boot. He's crazy! Not sure I will be attempting that when I get my Prancing Horse biggrin

The vids are great, thanks for sharing. HM's vid on the R129 SL600 is a classic. Now offloaded from his fleet.
