I have a different view of the CGT clutch I thought it was an awful thing, fine once on the move but absolutely horrible to get the car moving apart from the fact my CGT appeared not to have this "anti stall" feature, which everyone else seemed to have, where is the fun in not being able to coordinate throttle and clutch when taking off for me this is one of the beautiful things about manual cars.
My car was so bad I even made a couple of stunning videos back in 2007 to share with fellow owners to see what I was doinf wrong and to ask where my Anti Stall was ? :

Did you have a very early car? iirc the 2004 cars later had some kind of software update which the later 2005 cars were fitted with to make that process easier (and after quite a few US owners I believe fried their clutch from not reading the manual properly. 
Stunning car and well worth the extended efforts with the comprehensive service. It must feel very satisfying to have detected the 2nd gear issue and then have that validated (I once had a whole 'box on a Seat Leon Cupra R rebuilt for an overrun whine; later found out that all it wanted was a 50p spacer on the end of the 4th gear shaft where it sat in the casing).
Must be a privilege to own what is in my regard one of the finest combinations of chassis and engine conceived (in my lifetime at any rate). Thanks for sharing, I'll get back to planning how to have my own someday!

:Nah, mine didn't have that feature as Isaldiri says it was an early US car I really am not that bad of a driver, you CGT legends are properly clutch certifiable IMO 
.I really like clutches, so much so that I'm getting a tad bored of the auto box aspect of my Mclaren which I'm DDing and am seriously thinking of bringing my 997GT2 back into full service, now that has a proper clutch, lightweight flywheel 4.0 GT3 sprung disc with Sachs 764 plate can handle 950NM and awesome fun to play with

Great car and great pictures but....
I'm all for mechanical sympathy but how much extra is a clutch? (£10k? maybe) If I was prepared to pay £40k for a service I might want to pull away at more than tickover!! It might be worth it for a clutch every couple of services:-) Anyway not my money, great car and thanks for the post.

Very interesting to see what's involved in running something like this (That I frankly couldn't even dream of owning!).
£20K seems a lot at first sight, but for the level of work and parts replaced, doesn't sound at all unreasonable when you look into it!
Thanks for providing an insight into owning such a rare beast!

What a beautiful car though, right up there with my lottery win/bucket list motors for that incredible engine.
Nice write up on the service and so nicely presented! I did not realise these had such regular engine out services.
My friend is one of the others going on the 3 car trip you mentioned, I keep meaning to go over and see his black one again...I saw it a few times with the previous owner.
Do you still have the Yellow 993 RS?, I used to see you a lot on the Paddock Club days...mainly at Bedford.

That is my point about the clutch being crap there are two options.I'm all for mechanical sympathy but how much extra is a clutch? Option one (if your CGT has the fabled anti stall feature) is the zero throttle pull away, option two is lots of revs and kind of dump it this is the one which wears it out (obviously
) and is not suitable for most road driving .There is no in between if you try and apply the throttle whilst the clutch is still not fully out then it stalls, I really hated it it was Porsche being clever for clever's sake making a mega lightweight small first of its kind carbon/ceramic clutch for a road car, big fail IMO.
BTW I'm pretty sure a German outfit developed a conventional clutch set up as a retro fit but my CGT was long gone by then, sold at the maximum trough of course
