The start of this thread shows pictures of the car advertised....seller location Hampton....April'19
Yet the V5 has a change of owner Oct'19 to the current owner...seller location Hampton....hmmm
There is so much now that is just wrong... My HPI report came back fine except number of owners, it missed the last V5 change on Oct'19. Any ideas on that one for future reference. Will be using the vcheck one in future.
Glad I found this thread....very nearly bought it.

If you do a DVLA tax check it says last v5 change May 1st 2020 , so has the Hpi not included that?Yet the V5 has a change of owner Oct'19 to the current owner...seller location Hampton....hmmm

The logbook was issued 1/5/20. Last keeper change was October last year. Could it have been same keeper but address change or even a lost V5 or private plate change.
HPI check was saying the issue date of the logbook did not match the DVLA records so it failed the fraud guard. To be honest I think this is more likely a cockup on the part of the DVLA / HPI - seller seemed genuinely trying to help get to the bottom of this one. I was already aware of the bigger issues by this point but it would have been nice to have got a full clean bill of health from HPI and then email them with the report from vcheck and see what they said.
I expect HPI would have told me to do one, but it wouldn't have looked good on their facebook or twitter pages
What I don't understand though, if someone was genuinely trying to deceive, it would have been so much easier to do it quite a lot better. Different eBay account without all the previous items or previously failed sale's of the car. Get rid of the giveaway photos that always come up (the rose garden pics), take some new ones. Present the car nicely, clean inside and out, paperwork and history all in a folder, in order. Private plate would hide also hide a lot of internet search-ability. All that would make a world of difference in a sale and is so easy to do, it would build up a buyers confidence. This is what makes me give the seller the benefit of the doubt.

Out of interest, what would HPI do if someone were to claim against them? They have a £30k limit if I recall correctly.HPI check was saying the issue date of the logbook did not match the DVLA records so it failed the fraud guard. I think I read somewhere that they cover themselves for pretty much every eventuality in the small print so highly unlikely they would ever be liable for anything. I hadn't even heard of vcheck before last week but seems the guy running it is actually actively getting data, reg numbers and pics etc from many different salvage sites so even if it doesn't go through insurance he has salvage history. It was a surprise to me, I thought a paid HPI check was pretty decent, after reading up on it, seems almost a waste of time. Just good marketing.

Vcheck seems like a great service but where do these companies get their data for outstanding finance?
Could Vcheck let any outstanding finance fall through the net?
Vcheck gets their Finance data from Experian. I emailed them about it before. I am very happy customer as almost bought dodgy car myself if not vcheck. Could Vcheck let any outstanding finance fall through the net?

Just for info - did the damaged photos come from the Vcheck report or were they sourced elsewhere?
There's a link to the salvage company in the Vcheck report (see the "Salvage History" section)https://www.vcheck.uk/report/RV17NMZ-W7WWOPU/

No one would be horrid enough to email them photos of the damaged car, so that they couldn't deny knowledge, would they?NB13 said:
