Saw this covered in cobwebs this afternoon, had a carbon wheel though. Must of been hanging around for ages!

The carbon for my wheel is in now. Looks amazing. €1700 plus vat apparently!

Yes, absolutely! Always on top rolleyes

Thank you Sir, that is exactly correct! PPF should always go on top of decals. Not only will it protect the decals from chipping, but it will also eliminate peeling corners and nice white polish residue around them if you ever use a paste wax on the car...

GT3 Touring PPF applied over decals

GT3 Touring PPF applied over decals

The only instance when we would apply decals over PPF is if they have to be satin/ matt finish, as applying gloss ppf over matt decals will make them gloss, like in this picture below:

GT3 RS Gloss PPF applied over satin decals. These are still drying, so edge around the decals is not fully complete wink

When the film dries fully, there will be a tiny white outline around the decals - it creates a very nice 3D effect and looks absolutely stunning. After doing the touring we had a few requests to supply a decal set with the white outline around them smile
Cant agree with you with putting PPF over decals the halo around looks awful. I had mine removed new ones applied on top of the PPF

Looks fantastic in person. I was in the Crayon car
Thanks, yes was not sure how Signal yellow was going to turn out with the exposed Carbon, but very happy with it. Same for Crayon, that looked good also.

How did you find the Tyres, mine took 2 dial downs then they held 29/33 all afternoon.
Thanks I was also worries how it might come out but really happy in the end.

I was running 2.2bar hot and seemed good all day.
I think I’ve been running pressures too high as haven’t got comfortable yet. Although that’s probably a 911 thing!

Silverstone on the 1st if anyone else is going. Hopefully get to hear the JCR OPF exhaust options.
Im out on the 1st so you'll hear my JCR Race Pipe

Depends on how PPF is installed, if a lot of fluid is left behind then the "halo" will be massive and looks terrible, but if done correctly the halo/outline is tiny and the same size everywhere. I much prefer that then peeling decal corners smile

Gladly we are allowed to choose both ways wink

I originally had decals over the ppf against the advice of Janis at Max Protect, after a few weeks of hard and partly winter driving, the decals started to chip in the exposed areas as well as dirt build up. It was my mistake. I then had Janis remove them and the ppf and re-apply them under new ppf. 20 months and 13k miles later, the decals still look like new. In fact at most of the car meets I go to people think that they are painted on. No air gaps or residuals, they actually look pretty perfect. Choose a decal design you'll want to keep, and then ppf it on is my experience.

Just a point of interest
Ppf over decals is the way forward,i had my 997gt3rs with logos on the wings etc, removed the 10year old film which left the original decals in perfect condition, and none lifted while removing.

Great stuff. I’ll come and find you. I’ve been chatting with Jonny about it.

My aim is to bring a bit of life to the noise at lower revs. Downshifting now below say 4k isn’t much of an event. Higher up the Rev range I’m fine with as is and on track is ok too.

I’m tempted with the silenced version though as don’t want it too loud.

Agreed and the reason i only got the front bumper, bonnet and mirrors done on my RS..The well known PPF company my OPC insisted on me using would only only do the sides by taking the oem decals off before applying the PPF and reapplying new non oem decals on top..I wasn't happy with this and i'm glad others think the same.
If i decide to get the rest of the car done i'll drive it to Janis as he leaves the decals alone.

I looked at some cars that have PPF over the decals and I didn't like the small air gap you are left with around the decal edge, also satin decals become gloss.

Decals sit on top of paint so why not on top of PPF,pros and cons I guess

My decals will be coming off and I don't know why anyone would worry that the re manufactured decals aren't oem,do Porsche actually make Vinyl or decals, the patterns are readily available so whats the deal?

I'm having a full PPF and it really is full, double layer on all carbon areas and a wrap around so the re are no exposed edges or areas for dirt to build up

All my plastics will also have a base cover of vinyl then PPF over the top

I'm looking forward to the Carnage biggrin

Janis does a fair bit of work with Highgate House who are excellent for third party decals as many testify on here....I think they supply a lot to RS owners who don’t like the matt decals looking gloss as has already been pointed out.

Each to their own obviously !
