Have been looking for my dream spec 997 GTS for some months now, but not many have come to market...

Does anyone know the below car for sale with CAMERON? Good GTS' usually get snapped up and this has been up for sale for some time. I'd really like extended leather but so few cars seem to have it - starting to feel like I'm missing out on driving a great car for the sake of some stitching...

Thanks

GTS's are about Alcantara and centre locks.

As for the Cameron car, I don't know anything about it but there appears to be too much plastic interior. It's far nicer with the Alcantara glove box and the leather dash.

Yes the leather dash does make a big difference....not just in GTS’s...does in any Porsche! The plastic dash is grim in all the current cars!

That said I’d go and have a look at it and see what you think ? Guessing there’s a deal to be done if they’ve had it a while.

GTS cars are about the engine imo.

No one wants centre locks ! ok a few people do but why, god only knows.

the cameron car like all the other PDK cars of this era are NOT selling, PDK is a dead/lemon market in older cars imo.

if you want a PDK GTS buy a 991.1 car, again imo.

I just added one to my stable it is a mega thing and one of Porsche best engines the 3.8 X51.
I gave up waiting for the perfect manual 997.2 GTS with full alcantara pack, none came up after a year looking.

I think I own the 3 best engines Porsche have made in the last 10 years now, again imho , but that's why I bought/own them.

no one buying this yet

Looked at this a couple of times and I've come to the conclusion its a very risky purchase.
1. PCCB. An expensive and unnecessary maintenance option on this type of car.
2. Buckets. Look lovely but the optioned hard back sports seats are a better option for a car that is used regularly.
3. GT Kit. Ruins the shape of the car IMHO.

Its trying to be a GT3 for GTS money but accomplishes neither. The similarly specced car sans bodykit at JZM is a slightly better proposition but only slightly and has been around a long while and I suspect its the PCCB that is putting buyers off.

Either buy a 997/996 GT3 for the full on GT experience. If its a car to use daily then a GTS for the same money or really good Carrera/S with change to spare.

How do you find the steering feel in your new 991.1? This is another car I'm now considering. They are not *that* much more £ than a 997 and most seem better specced (at least the ones that are up for sale, leather dash etc...)

I think that’s a great summary and totally agree about PCCB’s being a handicap rather than an asset. Never owned a 997 with PCCB’s but have read on here that the ones used on 991 cars are markedly better in terms of longevity. A £15k consumable on a Carrera S is just nuts. Well it’s nuts to have a consumable that’s 30% of the car’s value.

I had a 997 GTS for two years. Was worried at first about the plastic dash, but soon forgot about it. In my previous Porsche cars the leather on the dash marks very easily which caused all sorts of OCD stress, so I think the plastic is quite practical.

Having been through this... this is what I found in the 997.2 and found that the subsequent GTS products don't share the same situation.

The 997.2 GTS is about cachet more than any real world noticeable difference in performance. I know some will say they can notice, but I couldn't.

  • Added engine power felt like it only existed at the very end of the rev range. I almost never redline anyway.
  • Quiet car by modern standards. GTS may improve, but I didn't notice any difference.
  • Centre locks counter intuitive in terms of practicality and weight. I don't like the flat / non dished look either.
  • Leather most noticeable on door cards than Dash. You will get used to whatever because that's being human, but if you don't drive it regularly, I think you would notice each time.
  • Alcantara is bullet proof and makes a great material for used cars. Wheel and knob gets dirty, but soapy water and steam will make it literally brand new again. Made no difference to me though.
  • folding buckets look great but never seen a good used set as they wear more with ingress and egress. The sport seats do near the same job holding you well.
Expect a £15k premium over a like with like S if not more. The lower the mileage - the better value the S becomes, the more premium the GTS.

I'm only talking about Manual cars... PDK is better value / cheaper.

The age of these cars now mean they all require some TLC and GTS no different.

I meant the last 500 revs.... the idea that we change gear on the line I don't think is realistic unless on track.

Does anyone know where a power chart may be found online - GTS Vs the S engine?

Thanks for the insights thus far - Am edging more towards a 991.1 now given the comments. This one looks nice but have not heard of the dealer before. 2 years Porsche warranty though?

poor , if the steering was .2 GT3 good I would sell other cars.

I have fitted PS4s tyres on mine and will get it geo's asap, fit the DSC and maybe techart spring set for another 20mm drop, they also add a bit or rake. but it's the week link on another wise amazing car.

I could not run it for a fun car, it's my daily car now but with a little bit of fun due to that engine and noise. just got board of my Golf CS, and I found a very nice spec GTS.

GT4 with that engine is the car I want with realistic gearing.

people say you cannot feel downforce on a car, but at 120mph my GT3's front is planted in a way no other normal road car is and my GTS goes a bit floaty at high speeds. ! I am hoping adding a bit of rake also cures that a little, I am also fitting the AERO CUP splitter which give more downforce than the sports design one.

GT3 too hard core GTS not enough !!! aggggg GT4 and Spyder had that stupid detuned engine and daft 2nd gearing. (very over hyped cars on PH imo)

I wish I could design a road bias GT car for Porsche.

Hoping a Touring 718 Spyder flat 6 might hit the spot but only if it has the x51 3.8 and an electric roof and updated ratio's , so I doubt it :-(.

How about adding some LCA with mono-ball ends to the GTS - that might add a little bit of feel to the front end?

all my fun cars are moonballed lol, this car is my new daily, not spending £15k on it.

Monoballs bring many down sides, I leave that to my .2 GT3 and 987.2 Spyder.

JZM have just reduced their similarly equipped Guards Red 997 Carrera S. Massive spec car for £45k.

I Don't think the engine makes a very nice road engine,(over hyped) early PASM is st, the gearings too long and the clutch is too heavy, bar that they are ok I guess :-)
I love the looks and idea of it.

I thought about one but would have to spend >£20k on it and prob still not fit my needs.
With prices at £110k plus mods you are back at 991.2 manuals and there is no contest.

I cannot fault my 991.2 GT3 really. After that engine you cannot go backwards.

991.2 manual GT3 is the pinnacle,, while the next one might be a tad faster, it won't sound as good.

I guess none of them are perfect, I agree about the gearing.
I will still use a 964 as much as possible through this summer though as they are so enjoyable with some mods.
I’ll let you know when I’m using the GT3 and have a drive if you like.
Cheers

Looks good.

Ignore the advice about buying a 991 instead. I had two 991s and the 997 PDK is the better car.
