Now I’m sure I’m not alone in liking good quality tools, I was reminded when using the Hazet torque multiplier to do the centre locks what a lovely quality bit of equipment it is.

Made by Hazet for the GT it’s the tool the GT service centres use. They are no longer available and it really makes swapping wheels a joy;

Even comes with its own bond-esque carrying case;

Torque really only 160 Nm?

Later centre locks much higher.

From memory about £1700 which if you work on the basis it was made specifically for the GT is not too bad.

It’s 160nm on the torque wrench, the multiplier is x 3.5 so 560nm at the output.

Do you just use a normal torque wrench? I'm struggling to work out how something inline multiplies torque, does it have gears internally or something?

That’s it standard torque wrench input and the multiplier has Series of gears that scales up the input torque x 3.5 to the output.

If I get a chance I’ll take the cover off tomorrow so you can see the internals.

What's the black 'stud'fkr then, just to reduce the chance if going to far in one go?

Beautiful bit of kit, and how very CGT.

Although the black piece is in line its outer casing is prevented from rotating by the spokes. Ordinary multipliers do the same thing with an extended reaction arm that touches the ground. Planetary gears inside the casing multiply the input torque.

Interesting that despite the wheel nuts being handed, they still require a pretty hefty tightening torque; maybe to take into account the times you’re going off backwards laugh

Do you also have a guide to avoid catching the ceramics?

They are NLA I'm afraid. I tried to get one via Reading OPC without any luck so you just have to keep your eyes wide open.........when they do come up for sale, they don;'t hang around. There are other options out there but the OEM is a lovely piece of kit.

I tried directly through Hazet too - no go unfortunately.

Good luck.

I bought this Carrera GT centre-lock socket a few years ago from eBay (LOL - Actually purchased in error!) and it’s now a pen-holder on my desk!
Stunning, light and beautifully made. Anyone in need of one??

Very neat.

See also putting a scaffolding pole over the end of the torque wrench. Not neat, but multiplies all the same. biggrin

I'm used to doing up Caterham rear hubs with a long bar and standing on it. Rather lb-ft it's calibrated in bert-ft. Sadly I had to recalibrate as I managed to reduce my size from fat-b*astard to thin b*stard biggrin
