Lovely car Mark.

I’m getting a car built from bare shell with Richard Tuthill shortly.

We may be going somewhat OTT but it is going to be awesome as far as I’m concerned.

Will do a thread when we have spec sorted out.

How do you get time to drive them all? If you need a driver to occasionally give them a run delighted to help out especially the yellow RS biggrin

Perhaps worth thinking about talking to RT about buying the ST at Hairpin as a base IMO. Looks like its been put together to a high standard and could easily be personalised further. Saves you loads of time, cash and effort wink

Cant wait to see spec and build!

So what would be a fair price for a LHD RSR rep based on a 72 shell with 3.2 running gear ?

In the current mkt as a general rule of thumb on bitsas my view is they're generally all 25-33% too expensive and its so dependent on state of condition of car and the standard of work carried out. Quality of work is so variable because most shops that build them don't have quality control of a proper car manufacturing factory.

So they're worth what a buyer is prepared to pay for them IMO. Impossible to guess a value for that car. I'd value it on the basis of what i could realistically sell the 3.2 drivetrain for and what a 72 rolling shell goes for if you're gong down the mfi route.

Yes too much at £100k. At £75k I think I'd maybe run out of reasons not to purchase. Wouldn't be difficult to source an early dash or convert to ST spec - far easier than a back date I'd imagine and more authentic too biggrin
There is a very nice ST backdate in Blood orange for sale JZM for £120K..In a great colour and looks like to be in absolutely fantastic condition as you would expect with JZM.
The white one at Ruf looks like a nice RS copy which i like every bit as much as an ST especially with the ducktail.
Taffy, that blood orange backdate at JZM. Just been reduced by circa £20k! Only been up for sale for a week or two has it not so surprised at such a big reduction?

20% price reduction....clearly not had a sniff. Just shows how difficult it is to know from a buyer’s perspective what the right price is for a car like this.

I inquired about it and even then they were willing to drop to the current asking price..I've got four new Porsches on order hence the reason i never went any further..In the next 6 months i'll be making some major decisions on what cars i keep or sell as i currently have too many which are turning into garage queens due to other time consuming things like work, family, holidays etc..
I'm in danger of becoming a car collector, something i swore to myself a long time ago i will never be..!

I was in the same predicament as OP.

The backdate/restomod scene is a minefield especially to a newcomer. I also checked out the JZM car but decided to pass up on it, mostly because I'm not looking for a track oriented car and instead more of a singer-like setup with back seats to fit small people and nice interior.

I've just bought the below Tuthill car which I believe was owned by PH member. Once I've run it as it is and am confident the air-cooled world is for me, the plan is to commission a full-on Tuthill special from it. Can't wait to pick it up.

The JZM seems to be the nicest 911 Backdate on the market currently..However i'd want one more for touring and not for tracking..This means one with rear seats and no cage..I really like the look of a Slate grey Steve McQueen 'Le Mans' look 911S but with some modern driving parts to make it more enjoyable to drive..

I'm wondering what those more modern driving parts might be. My 69 911 is an homage to the Steve McQueen replica that Beckham had! Both made by Lee Mayor, hence the interest.

Part of the joy of driving a classic is the period feel so don't see the point of modern driving parts. Having said that condition is paramount so you don't want worn suspension bushes or a sloppy gear change for example. You have your modern Porsches for modern feel so why not keep your classics classic? Then you have the best of both worlds. All in my opinion of course as I appreciate we all want different things. Interesting project though, Taffysmile

I know it’s not an ST , but I posted a little on the thread earlier about tyre choice and suspension advice on my 2.7 RS rep - here it is after final sesssion at Centre Gravity , sitting on Avon CR6ZZ’s - ride is now a tiny bit firmer than I’d like so will tweak a little more , but very nearly there - really loving the car, all the work has made such a difference smile

Trouble is the bumps crease my Martini racing jacket and mess with my Porsche baseball cap - it’s an issue ; worse still yesterday I spilled my latte ! frown
